ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS
The Consumer Price Index rose at an annual rate of 2.8 percent in October,
with a month-to-month increase of 0.3 percent. At the end of October, the
index stood at 153.7, compared with 153.2 in September and 149.5 in October.
That means that a collection of goods and services that cost $149.50 just a
year ago carried a price tag of $153.70 at the end of last month.
The index uses an average of costs in 1982-84 as a base of 100. If the
Bureau of Labor Statistics still used the year 1967 as a base, the October
goods would have cost $460.30.
