The trophy, presented by the J-Club of St. John's (Minn.) University and named for legendary Johnnies coach John Gagliardi, will be presented Dec.7 at the Salem Rotary Club meeting, two days before the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl at Salem Stadium.
Hull, a Rockbridge County High School graduate and W&L senior, led the ODAC with 14 sacks. He is the first ODAC player named a Gagliardi finalist in the award's three-year history.
A national panel of more than 30 votes for the award, which lists athletics, academics and extracurricular activities as criteria. Besides Hull, the finalists are:
Craig Anderson, linebacker, Ohio Wesleyan; Jason Baer, quarterback, Washington & Jefferson (Pa.); Nathan Hutchings, wide receiver, Eureka (Calif.); Anthony Jones, running back, LaVerne (Calif.); Craig Kusick, quarterback, Wisconsin-LaCrosse; Chris Palmer, wide receiver, St.John's (Minn.); Terry Peebles, quarterback, Hanover (Ind.); Jason Richards, tight end, Illinois Wesleyan; and Rick Sanger, linebacker, Central (Iowa).
