McDonald House sells holiday cards

The Ronald McDonald House of Southwest Virginia is selling holiday cards to raise money to cover its operating expenses.

This year's cards, sold in packages of 20 for $10, feature work by Roanoke Valley artists, Erik Fitzpatrick and Rebecca Ann Danahy.

The Ronald McDonald House, which opened in 1984, provides lodging for the families of seriously ill patients being treated at Roanoke Valley hospitals.

Salvation Army holds annual tournament

The Salvation Army will hold its 11th annual Holiday Classic Dec. 10-16.

The single-elimination basketball tournament is open to girls and boys with biddy, midget, little and junior league teams accepted. Games will be held at 6 p.m. on weeknights at the community center located at 724 Dale Ave. Southeast.

The entry fee is $50 per team and the deadline to register is 7 p.m. Dec. 1. Teams will be given tickets to sell, and they will keep half the proceeds.

The tournament will follow Roanoke rules, regulations and age brackets. Team trophies will be awarded for first place and runner-up in each age group.

Admission to tournament games is $2 for adults and $1 for those under 18. A coaches' meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Dale Avenue community center. For more information, call Judy Flanagan at 345-4483.
