COX, Clarence Albert, 90, of Rt. 3, Bedford, died Tuesday, November 21, 1995 at his residence. Born in Montgomery County on May 12, 1905, he was the son of the late Dock Jackson Cox and Mary Jane Miles Cox. A retired employee of Lane Company of Altavista, Va., he was a member of Morgans Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon for many years. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Dallie Aliff Cox, a daughter-in-law, Matleen Morgan Cox, a granddaughter, Carolyn Cox Lawhorn and three sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Flora Dinkel Cox; three sons, John Albert ( Boat) Cox, of Rt. 3, Bedford, Roy Calvin Cox, Rt. 3, Bedford, Malcolm Ralph (Mack) Cox, of the home; two daughters, Nancy Gaynelle Cox Tuck, Moneta and Jacqueline Lee (Jackie) Cox Woolwine, Rt. 3, Bedford; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; also surviving are three brothers, Marcus James Cox Sr., Moneta, Thomas J. LOTTS, McDowell Davis, 81, of Raphine, died Tuesday, November 21, 1995, in the Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville. He was born in Rockbridge County on April 19, 1914, a son of the late Joseph Franklin Lotts and Carrie Reese Lotts. Mr. Lotts was formerly employed in road construction work and retired from M. M. Sterrett and Son Dairy Farm, Brownsburg. He was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert F. Lotts and Robert Reese, two sisters, Betty B. Fitzgerald and Margaret Downey. Survivors include his wife, Clara (Withers) Lotts; one son, John David Lotts, Greenbrier, Tenn.; five daughters, Judith A. Camden, Churchville, Brenda S. Born at Ripplemead, he was the son of the late Garland Gleeves and Agnes Ozola Childress Pack. He graduated from Pembroke High School and served with the U S. Army during World War II. He had worked for more than 25 years for the Lynchburg Training Center in Madison Heights in the Maintenance Department. He was a member of the Oakvale Ruritan Club and the Kee Street United Methodist Church in Princeton, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Dunagan Pack; a son, Gary Pack, and two brothers, Howard and Earl Pack. SPROUSE, William C., 60, of Albany, Ore., formerly of Roanoke, died Tuesday, November 21, 1995, in Albany. He is survived by his father, T.W. Sprouse, Roanoke. Funeral services were private. Arrangements were by Oakey's North Chapel.
SWANTON, Thomas Andrew, Ret. Master Sergeant U.S.A.F., born October 2, 1948, died Tuesday, November 21, 1995 at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Salem. He was the son of Vera Creasy Schreiber and Lieutenant Colonel Robert T. Swanton, Ret; grandson of William and Laura Creasy, Bedford County. Tom joined the United States Air Force August 27, 1967 and, after serving his country for 20 years, was honorably discharged October 1, 1987 as an Air Training Command Instructor. Tom served in Vietnam, where he was awarded The Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and The Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze service stars. After Tom's retirement, he served in the Texas Wing of the Civil Air Patrol and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. All our lives are richer for having known and loved you, Tom. Funeral Services will be conducted from the Shady Grove Baptist Church, Bedford County, 1 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 1995 with the Reverend John McKinney officiating. Burial, with full military honors, by the Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base Honor Guard, will be in the church cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society for research. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel Friday, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

THORNTON, Jack Weaver, 90, of Narrows, died Tuesday, November 21, 1995 at his residence. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born on July 21, 1905 and was the son of the late Steven Anderson and Willie Hale Thornton. He was a retired mechanic at the Hoechst/Celanese Fibers Company Plant in Narrows. He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Roberton Thornton in February 1980. He is survived by three daughters, Louise T. Wheeler, Vivian T. Vaught, Doris T. Hyatt, all of Narrows. A sister, Lillian Robertson, Pembroke; nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildern, 10 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows with the Rev. David Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Robertson Family Cemetery on Wolf Creek in Giles County. The family will meet their friends at Riffe's in Narrows Friday evening from 6-8 p.m
