IN SERVICE

Lt. Shannon Wohlford of Radford recently finished training as radar intercept officer in an F-14 Tomcat Fighter at Miramar Naval Air Station, San Diego. Wohlford is assigned to the VF-11 Red Ripper Fighter and serves aboard the aircraft. He also will serve as squadron public affairs and legal officer in addition to flying duties.

Wohlford is a 1988 graduate of Radford High School and a 1992 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He is the son of Connie and Guy Wohlford of Radford.

Air Force Airman Rehnea McCraw has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of of the Air Force.

McCraw is the daughter of John McCraw of Pearisburg.

Marine Pfc. Bryce Duncan recently completed the basic aviation structural mechanic course at the Naval Air Station Memphis, Millington, Tenn. A 1995 graduate of Auburn High School, he is the son of Dennis Duncan and Karen Westmoreland of Christiansburg.

Cpt. Robert Asbury III recently was promoted to his present rank. Asbury is a meteorologist assigned to the Air Force Institute of Technology, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, where he also is pursuing a master's degree in atmospheric physics. He received his undergraduate degree in 1991 from the University of Hawaii and was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps.

Asbury is a 1982 graduate of Radford High School. He is the son of Carol and Bob Asbury of Radford.

Navy Fireman David Melton is halfway through a six-month overseas deployment to the Persian Gulf aboard the USS New Orleans.

Melton is the son of Douglas and Stella Melton. He graduated from Pulaski County High School in 1994 and joined the Navy shortly afterward.
