`I DON'T HAVE MUCH, BUT I STILL HAVE COMPASSION'

When Nina Ferguson's husband, Paul Ferguson, died near Christmas 11 years ago, she began donating money to area charities, including the Good Neighbors Fund, in his memory.

"When God gives to you, you are supposed to give to others," said Ferguson, who has contributed each year.

Another contributor, Patricia Lowery of Moneta, has been making donations to charities in the area for five years. Although Lowery's contributions are not in memory of anyone, they are for the same reason as Ferguson's - "to help people a little who are in a bind."

"I don't have much, but I can still have compassion," Lowery said.
