The deer hunting season at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant is well under way this year, with hunts continuing every Saturday until mid-December.
The hunt, which occurs at the arsenal every year, is for population control and to maintain the health and quality of deer in the area, according to a news release.
Nicole LaMarr, public affairs spokeswoman for the plant, said more than 1,000 people applied for the weekly hunts this year. Hunters, who are chosen on a lottery basis, pay approximately $13 for a day of hunting on arsenal property.
This year's hunt, which began Oct. 21, is full.
