PARK DEER HUNT PLANNED

Smith Mountain Lake State Park will be the site of a three-day primitive weapons hunt in early January in an effort to manage its deer herd.

Seventeen positions for bow and blackpowder hunters will be assigned Jan. 4-6 by a lottery system. The deadline for applications is 4 p.m. Dec. 15. The applications are $5, and there will be an additional $10 fee for hunters who are selected.
