A 41-year-old man was mugged in Northwest Roanoke late Saturday.
Police said Stafford Frank Rosser told them he was walking in the 200 block of Gilmer Avenue about 11:55 when someone yelled, "Yo." Police said Rosser stopped walking and a man came up behind him and put him in a choke hold. The man told Rosser to give up his money and he would not be hurt.
The man took Rosser's wallet from his rear pocket and stole $250 The robber fled with another man after the robbery. Rosser was not seriously injured.
nKiven Brown, 29, of no known address, was charged with rape late Friday after police found him at a Northwest Roanoke motel.
Police gave this account of what happened: A 21-year-old woman told them she was raped during the early hours of Nov. 12 by a man she knew by name.
The woman said she accompanied the man to a Northwest Roanoke house. As she attempted to leave the house, the man grabbed and smacked her. He held her down, choked her and raped her. The man threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident.
The woman filed a report and was treated at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley.
Police said they did not release information about the rape sooner because they were concerned for the victim's safety.
Two armed men wearing ski masks kicked in the front door of a Northwest Roanoke apartment Friday and stole tennis shoes.
Police gave this account: Regina M. Combs was in the bedroom of her apartment about 5:30 p.m. when two men broke into her home, each carrying a sawed-off shotgun.
The intruders forced Combs and another person in the apartment to lie on the floor while the two men searched for money. The men grabbed an undetermined number of tennis shoes and fled. No one was injured
