NEW RIVER PEOPLE

The Friendship Garden Club of Montgomery County met on Nov. 13 at the home of Carrie Mae Price. Alverta Leivos received a blue ribbon for her dried flower arrangement. Club meetings will resume in January.

The Blue Ridge Mountain Council of the Boy Scouts of America awarded its highest honor to James Wilson of Blacksburg and Charles Bopp of Pulaski on Nov. 18.

The Silver Beaver Award is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to scouting over several years.

Art by photographer and ophthalmologist David Hedges has been accepted for a major one-man show by the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum in Oklahoma City.

The show will consist of 35 fine-art photographs covering a range of natural subjects.

The exhibit will be on display in March and April next year.

Joseph Gardner, an English major at Radford University, appeared as Mike Tremaine in the College of Visual and Performing Arts Mainstage production of "The Oldest Living Graduate."

The play, by Preston Jones, was in October.

David E. Reemsnyder II has been appointed to the West Virginia Wesleyan College board of trustees.

Reemsnyder is president and chief operating officer of Snyder-Hunt Corp. in Blacksburg.
