Parry McCluer used a balanced scoring attack and clutch free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter to notch a 60-51 non-district victory over Riverheads on Wednesday in Buena Vista.
Chip Coleman led Parry McCluer (2-0) with 10 points. Five others had at least eight points.
The Fighting Blues made 10 of 15 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.
Riverheads (0-1) got a game-high 17 points from Ty Phillips.
R.E. Lee-Staunton 75, Rockbridge County 66: In Lexington, the Leemen converted several second chances for baskets and took control in the first half of a non-district game.
Rockbridge County (0-2) lost despite five 3-point goals and 19 points from Jaymie Terrell, 19 points from Ricky Wright and 16 points from T.J. Pettis.
Heritage 61, Franklin County 40: At Rocky Mount, Kevin Lambert's 22 points paced the Pioneers to the non-district victory over the Eagles.
Franklin County (0-2) hit a 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter and trailed 46-39. But the Eagles collapsed down the stretch, scoring only one point in the final six minutes.
K.C. Hancock led the Eagles with 10 points.
Grayson County 60, Radford 57: Wes Self and Chad Shaffner combined to score 41 of the Blue Devils' 60 points as they beat the Bobcats in a non-district game in both teams' season opener.
John Robertson, who led Radford with 16 points, had a 3-point attempt blocked with 5 seconds remaining as Grayson County preserved the victory.
Derrick Chapman and Larnelle Lewis each scored 13 for the Bobcats.
Carlisle 96, Oak Ridge Military Academy 72: Carlisle capitalized on 3-point shooting to shred Oak Ridge Military Academy.
Joseph McLinton and Lamont Franklin scored 28 points apiece, including five 3-pointers each, as Carlisle improved to 3-0.
Bryant Red added 20 points for Carlisle, which finished with 15 3-pointers, its highest total of the year.
Chris Stamper and Andre Harrington scored 20 points apiece for Oak Ridge, which trailed 36-28 at the half, but couldn't keep pace in the second half.
