A Lynchburg couple died Wednesday after the husband drove into the path of a pickup on U.S. 221 in the Forest area of Bedford County.
Willie Edgar Doss, 75, died at the accident scene. His wife, Ruth W. Doss, 69, died at Lynchburg General Hospital, according to state trooper W.O. Coleman.
The couple's passenger, Frances L. Wright, 74, remains in the hospital and was listed in very serious condition at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, according to a hospital spokesman.
Coleman said Willie Doss drove his car from a private road onto U.S. 221 at about 5:20 p.m. and was struck by a northbound pickup.
Ramona Williams, 45, and her 9-year-old daughter were in the pickup. They were treated and released from the hospital.
Coleman said Willie Doss, Williams and her daughter were all wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. He is uncertain if Wright or Ruth Doss were wearing seat belts.
The accident is still under investigation, Coleman said.
