Town Council has agreed to sell $3.5 million in bonds to remodel the old Lowe's store into a recreation center, pay for a new rescue squad building and repay to the general fund money the town used to buy the Lowe's building.
The town bought the Lowe's building in a surprise move for $1.4 million last April. Christiansburg plans to renovate the building into a much-needed recreation center, but the first bids for the project were too high and were rejected. The town will rebid the project in January.
Bids for the rescue squad building also were too high, but Town Manager John Lemley said he will negotiate with the lowest bidder.
Town Council agreed to sell the bonds after an executive session during a meeting Thursday.
