A Marsh Road house was heavily damaged by a fire that broke out Friday morning because of flammable material near a wood stove.
The house, in the 3400 block of Marsh Road, was filled with smoke when one of the residents returned home.
Fire Chief Keith Bolte said the fire started in the basement near a wood stove and caused about $60,000 damage to the house and its contents.
The family's pet dog was found dead in the basement; all of the contents in the basement burned, Bolte said.
The house also sustained heavy structural and smoke damage to the main floor.
The home belonged to Gary Scott.
Firefighters were called to the house at about 10:30 a.m. and left at 1 p.m. Fifteen firefighters responded to the blaze.
