CROWDS IGNORE COLD FOR FLOATING PARADE

Hundreds of people braved a nippy night on the banks of the James River to watch and cheer the boat crews in an unusual Christmas parade Saturday.

The James River Parade of Lights featured about three dozen boats, from runabouts to yachts, all decorated for the holiday.

``For an inland city like Richmond, we are lucky to have the water to do this,'' said Pauline Mitchell, executive director of the James River Task Force, which sponsors the parade.

One boat had white lights strung from bow to mast top, making it look like a floating Christmas tree. A 40-foot yacht owned by John Salyer of Chester won the top prize.
