CHARGE FILED IN AFTER-PARTY RAPE

Roanoke police have charged a 35-year-old Pulaski County man with raping a female co-worker after a company holiday party.

Pulaski police served a rape and sodomy warrant on Thomas Frederick Kulis, 35, late Monday, Roanoke police said. He is free on bond.

A 23-year-old Radford woman accused Kulis after a party at a Roanoke motel. Police said the offense occurred about 2 a.m. Friday.

Police said the woman told them a male colleague invited her to his motel room for a small party after the main event. When she arrived, there was no party. When he tried to kiss the woman, she tried to leave, but she was thrown on the bed and raped, police said.

The woman returned to her home and was treated at a local hospital. She later contacted Roanoke police and secured warrants.

Maj. J.L. Viar declined to release the name of the motel or the company holding the party.
