OFFICERS HONORED

A commitment to "going the extra mile" and "giving 100 percent" won recognition for three law enforcement and public safety officers as Radford's best at Monday night's City Council meeting.

Veterans of Foreign Wars presented awards to:

David J. Trail, a police detective, Police Officer of the Year. Trail was recommended for the award by his supervisor, and final approval came from the chief of police. His superiors said he deserved the award for "going the extra mile, selfless dedication, giving 100 percent in his work and general excellence."

Laurie A. Taylor, Paramedic of the Year. Taylor has been a paramedic at Radford Community Hospital for six years. She was selected by her peers for her additional work as a member of the Pulaski Rescue Squad. Co-workers said she showed diligence, had a strong desire to help people, and helped develop a navigation system for Radford.

Chris H. Hubbard, Firefighter of the Year. Hubbard was selected by other members of the Radford Volunteer Fire Department for "giving 100 percent in his job, devoting his energy to special projects, team work and general excellence."
