A 14-year-old boy is in a Roanoke hospital's intensive care unit being treated for a gunshot wound in the forehead from a BB rifle.
Blacksburg police said they were informed of the shooting, which took place Sunday afternoon, on Monday. The boy's name is not being released because of his age.
An investigation so far shows that the 14-year-old was shot by a 15-year-old acquaintance. The boy was visiting the 15-year-old's trailer in the Northeast section of town.
The victim's parents took him to Montgomery Regional Hospital, and an ambulance took him on to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, police said.
Detective Sgt. Donnie Goodman said an investigation is continuing.
"We're trying to figure out one way or another exactly what happened," Goodman said. Police also are withholding the name of the 15-year-old.
With the victim in intensive care, the injury is serious "so far, but hopefully he can recover," the detective said. He's "a very lucky young man."
