Eric Johnson had 14 points and dished out 12 assists Thursday night in Bluefield to lead Roanoke Valley Christian to a 58-50 high school basketball victory over Meadow Bridge.
Roanoke Valley Christian (4-1) also got 17 points from Joel Nester and 10 from Mark DeLong.
The Eagles got control of the game in the second quarter and led by 15 at one point in the fourth quarter.
Jason Harper lead Meadow Bridge (0-1) with 10 points.
Narrows 67, Pocahontas 49: Joe Shipbaugh poured in 30 points as the Green Wave smashed Pocahontas in a non-district game in Narrows.
Shipbaugh, a junior guard/forward made 10 of 10 free throws, including six-of-six in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. He has scored 74 points in Narrows' first three games.
Robbie Stafford added 19 for the Green Wave (2-1).
Miller School 69, Roanoke Catholic 52: Kevin Johnson and Shareef Brown combined to score 57 of Miller School's points as the Red Devils dropped Roanoke Catholic in Charlottesville.
Johnson, a 6-foot-5 forward, scored 31 points, including three 3-pointers for Miller School (5-0).
Brendan McCarthy led Catholic (1-1) with 23 points, and Alex Dickson added 10.
Girls
Cave Spring JV 59, Roanoke Catholic 26: The Knights junior varsity team used their inside strength to overpower the Celtics on the glass and score 20 points off offensive rebounds. Amber Neil led Cave Spring with 12 points and Christy Fagg had 10. Teresa Monsour led Roanoke Catholic with seven points.
