Montgomery County this week approved spending up to $291,000 for emergency repairs to portions of four school roofs.
The Board of Supervisors said it would pay now and reimburse itself later. The reimbursement will come either from money the county plans to borrow this spring to build a new elementary school for the Riner area, or from some other unspecified source.
The schools to get repairs include Blacksburg Middle, Prices Fork Elementary, Shawsville Middle and High and Auburn Middle and High schools.
All four leaking roofs are single-ply systems that were installed in 1983, school Superintendent Herman Bartlett told the Board of Supervisors this week. The roofs developed problems after passing their 10-year warranty, he said.
