ARRINGTON, Maud French, 75, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, December 18, 1995. She was retired from Burlington Industries and was the widow of Earl Dooley Arrington. Survivors include three sisters-in-law, Goldie French, Clintwood, and her three children; Saluda Baldwin, Vinton; Gladys Arrington, Lynchburg; one brother-in-law, Ralph Arrington, Dugspur; nieces, Betty Loranger, Boyne City, Mich., Doris A. Morga n, Moneta, nephews, Jack Johnson, Indianapolis, Ind., Oville Ratliff, Kentucky; also several other nieces and nephews. CREGGER, Jennie Lou, 99, of Salem, died Sunday, December 17, 1995. Her love for her family and others was expressed in her many acts of kindness and caring. Her life made her worthy of the words of praise from Proverbs, ``Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.'' She is preceded in death by her husband, Clark M. Cregger. DENNING, Elizabeth Brickey, of Chattanooga, Tenn. died Saturday, December 16, 1995 in a Chattanooga hospital. A native of the Cave Spring area, in Roanoke, she was the daughter of the late Hoyt and Daisy Coon Brickey, and a sister of the late Junius Coon Brickey. She and her husband, the late John Walter Denning, Jr., went to Chattanooga in 1937 and were the founders of Denning Brothers Mimeograph, Inc. Mrs. Denning was a member of The First Baptist Church of Chattanooga. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Denning Holley, Chattanooga, Mrs. Bettye Denning Traylor, Lincolnshire, Ill.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Brickey Riley, Phoenix, Ariz. DILLON, Robert Carter, (``Bob''),76, of Pearisburg, died Sunday, December 17, 1995 in Giles Memorial Hospital. Mr. Dillon was retired from the Bland Correctional Farm and was a former Giles County Deputy Sheriff, and a farmer. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. Dillon was born in Giles County on November 6, 1919, and was a son of the late Henry Lee Dillon and Ida Farmer Dillon. He is survived by his wife, Mary Thomas Dillon, Pearisburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and LaVerne Dillon, Roanoke, Larry and Judy Dillon, Lancaster, Pa.; one brother, Ernest H.. MUNSEY, Miss Maude S. , 88, of Radford, formerly of Floyd, died Monday, December 18, 1995 at Wheatland Hills Retirement Center, Radford. She was the daughter of the late Rev. I . N. and Susan Munsey. She was a Home Economics teacher for 35 years, having taught in Giles County and Charleston, W.Va. She was a graduate of Radford State Teacher's College and had a Masters Degree from Columbia University. She was a longtime member of Grove United Methodist Church. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Surviving are her sister-in-law, Margie Munsey, Radford; nephew and wife, Randolph and Eleanor Munsey, Meadowview; niece and husband, Evelyn and Jack Hetherington, Richmond. PARCELL, Luther Garnett, 63, of Route 2, Narrows, died Sunday, December 17, 1995 in Giles Memorial Hospital, Pearisbur g. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born on July 17, 1932, and was the son of the late Samuel Hubert and Bertha Lee Perdue Parcell. He was a veteran of the Korean War, and was a member of the Waste Water Operators of Virginia, and the Church of Christ at Glen Lyn. He is survived by his wife, Lois Candler Parcell; two daughters, Vanessa (Nicki) Stephens, and Lynn Akers, both of Narrows; two sisters, Libby Masters, Narrows, and Edna Hughes, Rich Creek; three grandchildren, Terri Lee Thompson, Lacy Akers III, and Sammy Akers, all of Narrows; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Church of Christ at Glen Lyn, with Minister Mike Lynn officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Narrows, with graveside rights conducted by the American Legion Post #68 of Narrows. PENDLETON, Margaret Tinder, of Wytheville, died Sunday, December 17, 1995 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She grew up in Fredricksburg, Va., the daughter of the late William Judson Tinder and Theodosia Harris Tinder. She was a graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman's College, Class of 1928, with a major in English. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and a past member of the Vestry, a member of the Wythe County Historical Society and a Pink Lady at Wythe County Community Hospital Ladies Auxiliary for 23 years. Mrs. Pendleton particularly loved growing flowers and sharing them. Indeed, her whole life was spent caring and doing for others. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel Willis Pendleton, a granddaughter, Jennifer Pendleton Cook, a sister, Katherine Tinder Massey and a niece, Theo Harris Massey. She is survived by four daughters, Margaret Pendleton Bowers, Morehead City, N.C., Patty Pendleton DuPuis, Wytheville, Jane Pendleton Cook, Skokie, Ill., Elizabeth Tinder Pendleton Geffert, Bethesda, Md.; three sons, Nathaniel W. Pendleton Jr., Hilton Head, S.C., William N. Pendleton, Wytheville, Mann R. P. Pendleton, Old Hickory, Tenn.; one niece, Beth Massey Pendleton, Belton, S.C.; twenty-four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren also survive. WALDRON, Sidney Frank, 78, of Salem, died Monday, December 18, 1995. He was retired from Valleydale, and is survived by his wife, Rachel M. Waldron; l daughter, Linda W. Givens, Roanoke; one son, Sidney Wayne Waldron, Salem; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three sisters. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Lotz Salem Chapel, by the Rev. Bill St. Clair, with burial in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday or Wednesday at the Lotz Salem Chapel.
WHEELER, Joyce Bradley, 60, of Narrows, died Sunday morning, December 17 1995, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born in Rich Creek on September 26, 1935, and was the daughter o f the late Samuel Lee and Amy Gore Bradley. She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Lee Bradley; and a sister, Sandra Bradley Borgula. She is survived by her husband, Perry A. Wheeler, Narrows; three brothers, Henry D. Bradley, Gray, Tenn., Thomas W. Bradley, Pearisburg, Samuel M. Bradley, Narrows; two sisters, Eunice B. Clayborn, Bristow, Carol B. Thompson, Narrows; and a special friend and brother-in-law, Frank and Marie Conley, Narrows. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows, with the Rev. Rick Painter officiating. Burial will follow in the Conley Cemetery, Route #2, Narrows. The family will gather with their friends at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
WHITESEL, Jackson Davis, (``Jack""), 89, of 215 Diamond Ave., Rocky Mount, died Sunday, December 17, 1995. He was born a son of the late William and Hester Whitesel on June 15, 1906, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Glossbrenner and Robert Whitesel. Jack graduated from Perry McClure High School in Buena Vista, where he was captain of their first football team. He attended V.P.I. and was half-back on their football team. Jack moved to Rocky Mount in 1930 and married Hester Williams in 1932. He retired from the Supervisory Department of J.P. Stevens Textile Co. in 1971 after 41 years of service. He was then employed by the Franklin County School system and retired from there in 1987 after 15 years of service. He was an Elder of the Rocky Mount Presbyterian Church in the 1950's and 60's and served as Secretary of their Sunday School Department. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Hester Williams Whitesel; his daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn Whitesel and Richard Murtagh; three grandchildren, Sidney E. Hassel, Deborah L. Hensley and Timothy P. Murtagh; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Whitesel; two brothers, Ferth and Russell Whitesel. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday in Flora Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. M. G. Goodpasture officiating. Interment will follow in High Street Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 342 S. Main St., Rocky Mount.
WILSON, Mary E., 97, of Newport News, died Sunday, December 17, 1995 in Newport News. She was a native of Vinton, and a peninsula resident for 59 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Wilson was the widow of the late Samuel R. W ilson Sr. She is survived by two sons, Charles H. Wilson, Newport News, and Samuel R. Wilson Jr., Englewood, Fla.; five grandsons; four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in Peninsula Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roy Miller officiating. A graveside service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Roanoke. YOUNG, Adean Ziegler, 67, of Roanoke, died Monday, December 18, 1995. She was preceded in death by her parents, L. W. and Nettie P. Ziegler and her brothers, Eldridge Ziegler and Wayne Ziegler. Adean loved people and was friends and friendly with everyone. She was a charter member of Bethany Christian Church and served in many capacities over the years. She was also a member of the Hollins Chapter of the American Business Women's Association. Surviving are her husband, Dewey Arthur Young; brother and sister-in-law, Leonard C. and Virginia Ziegler, Roanoke; sister, Jean Z. Wimmer, Roanoke; sisters-in-law, Betty A. Ziegler, Richmond, Rosemary O.
