Virginia Tech's football recruiting class retained its Northeast flavor Tuesday with word that three more prospects had committed to the Hokies.
Joshua Redding, a 6-foot-6, 275-pound offensive tackle from Hanover, Pa., became the fifth player from Pennsylvania to say he will sign with Tech.
Tech also received its second and third commitments this week from New Jersey players, lineman Anthony Lambo from Bloomfield and wide receiver Cory Byrd from Mays Landing. Quarterback Dave Meyer from Ramsey, N.J., committed Monday.
Lambo (6-4, 250) had 26 receptions for 405 yards and five touchdowns and was named first-team all-state as a tight end by The Associated Press. The (Newark) Star-Ledger picked him first-team all-state as a defensive tackle.
Lambo visited Tech and Kansas and canceled a trip to Georgia Tech.
Redding had not taken any other official visits. He had been in contact with Maryland, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Rutgers, but said he had received no other offers.
Redding, who has a 6-0 record this season as a heavyweight wrestler, played varsity football for only two seasons.
Redding, who has dropped almost 10 pounds to wrestle at 275, made all-city and all-conference both ways in football but expects to play offense in college.
Neither Byrd (5-11, 195) nor his coach at Oakcrest High School could be reached for comment, but Byrd's mother confirmed that her son would sign with the Hokies. Tech now has 18 commitments, two of which count against last year's 25-scholarship quota.
