Virginia football player Tiki Barber added to his list of achievements Tuesday when he was named Academic All-American by GTE.
Barber was only the second UVa player in the past 16 years to make first-team Academic All-American, joining linebacker Tom Burns, who was selected in back-to-back seasons (1992-93).
Barber, a junior from Cave Spring High School in Roanoke, majors in commerce and carries a 3.42 grade-point average.
Barber earlier had been named first-team All-ACC, ECAC Division I player of the year and Division I state player of the year by The Roanoke Times. He also was a finalist for the Doak Walker Award, which goes to the nation's top running back.
Barber rushed for a school-record 1,397 yards and 14 touchdowns. He finished second in the ACC in rushing and first in all-purpose yards with 1,906 - another UVa record.
