BASHAM, Leola S., age 96, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arley L. Basham and a son, Calvin R. Basham. Mrs. Basham was a longtime member of Villa Heights Baptist Church. Surviving are her daughters and son-in-law, Naomi B. Bailey, Princeton, W. Va., Irene B. Kemp, Roanoke , Elaine B. McElyea, Toledo, Ohio, Betty B. and Horace D. Creasy, Daleville; Daughter-in-law, Jewel H. Basham, Roanoke; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Thursday at Oakey's North Chapel by the Reverend Harold C. Lewis. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at Oakey's North Chapel.
BOYD, Clarence E. Sr., of 812 4th St., NE, Pulaski, VA died Monday, December 18, 1995, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in McDowell Co., WV on December 8, 1910, and was the son of the late Benejamin Boyd and Sally Young Boyd. He was a retired supervisor at Pulaski Mirror Co. having 55 years of service and he was a former member and pastor at the Pauline Church of Christ, Pulaski. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Alice ``Ruth"" Bryant Boyd. Surviving are two sone & daughters-in-law, C.E. and Beth Boyd, Jr., Pulaski, Taylor & Wilma Boyd, Dublin; four grandchildren, Tammie Hamblin, Pulaski, Lisa Hamilton, Dublin, Michael Boyd, Dublin, Teresa Boyd, Dublin; four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert Owens and the Rev. Bud Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. CHOCKLETT, Harold Edward, 70, of Charlotte, N.C., died Monday, December 18, 1995, at his residence. A native of Virginia, he was a U. S. Army veteran and served with the Old Hickory Division. He retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with more than 30 years of service in Charlotte. He is survived by his wife, Helen P. Chocklett; a son, Gregory P. Choc klett of Raleigh, N.C.; a daughter, Marcia C. Montgomery of Alpharetta, Ga.; three brothers, Harry E. Chocklett of Dunbar, W.Va., James Chocklett of Florida and William Chocklett of Roanoke, Va.; a sister, Doris Jordan of Roanoke, and three grandchildren. COOLEY, Betty Hillman, 66, of Hillsville, passed away Saturday, December 16, 1995 in North Carolina Baptist Hospital. She was born July 16, 1929 in Norfolk, daughter of the late Charles Hillman and Ruth Byrd Hillman. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Howlett, Jean Horton, and Sarah Beale. She is survived by her husband, Rufus B. Cooley Sr., Hillsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Rufus B. HARMON, Blanche Jones, 92, of Blacksburg, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 1995 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy W. Harmon; a son, Walter W. Harmon; and two dau ghters, Frances Marie Harmon, Jean H. Witt. She is survived by one daughter, Ruby H. Shelor, Blacksburg; three sons, Guy B. Harmon, Roscoe Junior Harmon, both of Christiansburg, Johnny L. Harmon, California; one brother, Harry M. Jones, Christiansburg; 28 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and 46 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, December 21, at the Bible Holiness Church, Christiansburg, conducted by the Rev. Homer D. Sawyer, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. HUFFMAN, Doris Miller, 89, of Pearisburg, died Saturday, December 16, 1995 at her home following a short illness. Mrs. Huffman was a retired school teacher. She was born in Huntington, W.Va. on February 27, 1906, and was a daughter of the late Pearly Pierce Miller and Daisy B. Miller Claypool. She was the widow of Robert V. Huffman. She is survived by one half brother, William H. Claypool, Ft. Worth, Texas. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 21, 1995 at 2 p.m. in the Givens Funeral Chapel, Pearisburg, with the Rev. J. Carl Rouintree officiating, with burial in Birchlawn Burial Park. MEREDITH, Gertrude Sherman, 92, of Pembroke, died Tuesday, December 19, 1995, at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Pembroke on January 12, 1903, she was a daughter of the late Tosh and Julie Brown Jones. She was the wife of the late Ward W. Meredith; mother of the late William Meredith, Garnet Meredith, Jack Meredith and Nannie Mae Runions, and grandmother of the late Larry Dale Blevins. Surviving are three sons and their wives, Douglas and Helen Meredith of Roanoke, Gene and Lahoma Meredith of Pembroke, and Kenny and Dottie Meredith of Pembroke; six daughters and their husbands, Mary Lee and Peyton St. Clair of Pearisburg, Francis and Larry Blevins, Lola and Joe Falls, Lucille McCall, Shirley and Benny Eades, and Phyllis and Jerry Williams, all of Pembroke; 27 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren, and three daughters-in-law, Ruth Meredith and Barbara Meredith of Pembroke and Carol Meredith of Norton, Ohio. NIBLOCK, Agnes Stewart, of Brandon Oaks Retirement Community, Roanoke, and formerly of 3457 Peakwood Drive., died Tuesday, December 19, 1995, at Brandon Oaks. Surviving are her husband, Henry L. Niblock; a sister, Mrs. H. W. (``Lottie'') Shepherd, Roanoke; a nephew and niece, Bill and Lori Shepherd and their sons, John and Scott, Reno, Nev. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the sanctuary choir for many years. Mrs. Niblock was a retired teacher from the Public Schools of North Carolina and Roanoke for 39 years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma (an honor society for teachers). She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (General James Breckenridge Chapter), a member of the National Society of the Magna Charter Dames and the Planagent Society. Mrs. Niblock was also a member of the Thursday Morning Music Club and the Roanoke Symphony Auxiliary. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday from First Presbyterian Church (Lapsley Chapel) with the Rev. Robert D. Smith, the Rev. Dr. W. Philip West, and the Rev. Dr. Charles Easley officiating. Burial will be in Greensboro, N. C., 3 p.m. Thursday at Alamance Presbyterian Church cemetery. OWENS, Thomas F., 78, of Independence, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 1995, at Twin Co unty Regional Hospital in Galax. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Virginia Higgins Owens. He was born April 16, 1917, at Independence to William B. and Margie E. Stedham Owens. He was a retired self-employed carpenter, a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of First Baptist Church of Independence. Surviving are two sons, Thomas E. Owens and William Reedy Owens of Independence, and a brother, William Bart Owens of Independence. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 21, 1995, at 11 a.m. in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, with Elder Jess B. Higgins and the Rev. David Roberts officiating. RADFORD, Lula Jane Sweeney, 105, of Floyd, departed this life Tuesday, December 19, 1995, at the home of her daughter. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Peter B. Radford; daughter, Marie Radford; grandson, Shirley Radford; granddaughter, Barbara Taylor; great-grandson, Carl Lee Taylor, and infant great-great-grandson. ""Mama"" was baptized into the Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren in April of 1915, and remained faithful until death. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ora R. and Ewell V. Huff, Floyd; two sons and daughters-in-law, Garfield and Velma Radford, Floyd, MacRae and Lois Radford, Collinsville; two half sisters, Daisy Sweeney, Floyd, Weeda Layman, Roanoke; four grandchildren, Annie Ruth Wood, Dorsey V. St.Clair, Doris Marie, (``Ekey''), 67, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, December 18, 1995. She retired from the V.A. Medical Center, where she worked as a LPN. She was preceded in death by one son, Homer Flint Jr.; and one daughter, Leslie Flint. Survivors include her husband, Wilfred St.Clair; five sons, William Flint, Roanoke, Robert (Phyllis) Flint, Landover, Md., Michael Flint, James Flint, Roanoke, and Jeffrey (Tracy) Flint, Baltimore, Md.; three daughters, Jo Ann Flint, Karen Flint, and Constance Flint, all of Roanoke; three brothers, Robert E. ST.CLAIR, Olive, (``Ollie""), 82, of Roanoke, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 1995. She was the widow of Elbyrne F. St.Clair. Mrs. St.Clair was a retired nurse and served as an Army nurse in World War II. She was a member of Grandin Court Baptist Church since 1956. She will be greatly missed b y her family and friends. Surviving are a daughter, Janice St.Clair, Roanoke; son, Steven St.Clair, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, Jim Gibbons, Newton Falls, Ohio; beloved friend Ricardo. STOVER, William Vernon, 87, of Marion, died Monday, December 18, 1995 in Smyth County Community Hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was a retired Government employee and was a me mber of Marion Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Pearl Cregger Stover of Marion; one daughter, Betty Stover Bales of Marion, Va.; two brothers, James H. Stover of Coral Gables, Fla., and A. He was born January 3, 1908, in Eagle Rock, the son of the late Robert S. and Catherine Broughman Wilhelm. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Mary Linkenhoker Wilhelm of Covington; two daughters, Mrs. William (Eunice) Mays of Moneta and Mrs. Larry (Marcia) Lanum of Danville; four grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, R. L. (``Jack"") Wilhelm of Covington and Homer H. Wilhelm of Albuquerque, N.M., and one sister, Mrs. Mary Brown of Glasgow. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Lance W. Lanum, in 1983, and by four brothers and two sisters. The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday from Arritt Funeral Home Chapel, Covington, with the Rev. Dan Gillette officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends until 8:30 p.m. The interment will be made at 11 a.m. Thursday in Alleghany Memorial Park, Covington, with graveside rites conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post #1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
WILSON, Effie Daniels, 83, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, December 18, 1995. Survivors include seven sisters, Dorothy Slaughter of Phenix, Eunice Holland and Violet Bonds of New York City, Eva Monroe of Oakland, Calif., Mildred Moss and Cleo Jones of Charlotte Court House and Leola Taylor of Fayetteville, N.C.; one brother, Thomas Daniels; two sisters-in-law, Edith Daniels and Hellen Wilson, all of Roanoke; a brother-in-law, Malvern Taylor of Fayetteville, N.C.; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
