Entries sought for annual MDA car show
The Roanoke Valley Charity Car Show Committee is accepting entries for its 16th annual MDA Car Show to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The Feb. 23-25 show at the Roanoke Civic Center will include custom cars, street rods, race cars, antiques and classics, pro-streets, motorcycles, pickups, muscle cars, four-wheel drives, off-road vehicles and vans.
There is no entry fee, but commercial booths will be available. Call the MDA office, 772-3237, for applications.
Museum seeks horse-drawn vehicles
The Virginia Museum of Transportation is seeking carriages, sleighs, buggies and other horse-drawn vehicles to display in its upcoming exhibition, "Harness, Hoofbeats and Silver Bells," which will run from Jan. 6 to March 1, 1996.
The museum is asking to borrow restored horse-drawn vehicles (excluding farm implements) dating from the 1850's to the 1930's and any publications, artifacts or equipment relating to American carriage manufacture, craftsmanship or travel.
Of particular interest is information on the following local carriage companies that were in the Roanoke area: R.D. Cardwell, Noell Wertz & Co., William H. Startzman, E.W. Sykes, John W. Witt, or Karman & Huff.

Youths sell cards for West End Center
The West End Center For Youth is selling sets of greeting cards that were reproduced from original paintings by Roanoke artist Petie Brigham.
The profits will support programs at the southwest center that offers tutoring and activities to youngsters.
