The Rural Housing Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture will begin accepting applications Jan. 2 for its Housing Preservation Grant Program.
The funding is to be used for the rehabilitation of housing owned and occupied by low-income rural persons. Virginia's allocation for the 1996 fiscal year is $222,590.
Only organizations, government or private, are eligible to apply for the funding. Those interested should contact manager Joseph W. Newbill at the Rural Development Office in Rocky Mount at (540)483-5133 or the state office at (804)287-1584.
