Many of our readers gave us a Christmas present this year - they shared with us their gift of memories and love.
The short story contest in this paper's Extra section prompted more 100 New River Valley writers to send in reminiscences about holidays full of family traditions and small miracles. The stories also told stories of loneliness and loss, of loved ones missing from the family circle.
Sabrina Tolley of Radford said it best. "I am no professional writer, needless to say," she wrote in her story of a childhood gathering at her grandparents.'
"However, I did write this story from the heart. It was a true pleasure to relive my fondest memories of the holidays through this story."
We'll share with you three of our favorites and also give you a shorter sampling from a few of the other stories written by your New River neighbors.
Happy Holidays.
