REFLECTIONS HAS MANY MONTGOMERY WINNERS

Each year, the National Parent Teacher Association sponsors a Reflections Program. In its 26th year, this year's theme was "Just Open Your Eyes and See

Reflections entries had to directly relate to and express the theme, or the theme had to be used in a title or subtitle. Original entries could be submitted in four categories:

Visual arts: paintings, drawings, collage, printmaking, needlework, computer generated art.

Literature: poetry, prose, drama, short stories, song lyrics, fiction or nonfiction.

Music: scores of original composition, with or without words, accompanied by tapes.

Photography: color or black and white prints or a collage of photographic prints.

The contest also was divided into four grade divisions: primary, preschool-grade 2; intermediate, grades 3-5; middle/junior, grades 6-8; and senior, grades 9-12.

Students first competed in the program at their school. Each school submits its first place winners in each category and grade level to the county Reflections Program contest. First place winners from the county will compete in the district competition. Successive first place winners then move on to the state level and then the national level.

Entries were judged on originality, creativity, interpretation of the theme and artistic merit. Each school selected its own group of judges, which consisted of university professors, teachers, parents and citizens.
