BURTNER, Edward Carl, 83, of Mount Solon, died Sunday, December 24, 1995. Born July 7, 1912, to the late Homer Paul and Anna Stover Burtner, he resided in the home of his birth until the day of his death. A farmer, he was a member of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church and a member of the North River Ruritan Club. He was on the Augusta County Board of Supervisors from 1960 to 1967, on the Augusta County Planning Commission from 1968 to 1973, on the Augusta County Department of Social Services Board from 1964 to 1968, on the Augusta County School Board Selection Committee from 1971 to 1988, on the Augusta County Redistricting Commission in 1968 and 1970, and a former trustee of the Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Marion, Albert and Byard; sisters, Mabel Crosson, Madge Wilfong, Margaret Smith and Vada Burtner. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Wilma Craun Burtner; four children and their families, Judy Burtner, Richmond, Charles, Patsy and Nathaniel Aligood, Lexington, L. Scott, Patti, Joshua and Hannah Burtner, Mt. Solon; E. York, Carolyn, Bradlee and Wesley Burtner, Winchester, Ky.; brother, Roscoe Burtner, Blacksburg; sisters, Olga Hawkins, Harrisonburg, Beda McMahan, Sebring, Fla.; many nieces and nephews as well as many friends. A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 1995, in the Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Mt. Solon. The Rev. John Haynes and the Rev. Eicky Woodson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dayton Cemetery, Dayton, Va. The family will receive friends at the Johnson Funeral Service, Bridgew ater, Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the Mount Solon Rescue Squad, in care of Carson Fifer, Rt. 1, Box 350, Mount Solon, Va., 24843. DOOLEY, Mabel Huddleston, 85, formerly of Stewartsville, died Sunday, December 24, 1995 at Richfield Nursing Center. She was the widow of John B. Dooley, and was a member of Barnhardt Baptist Church. Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 1995. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. EDWARDS, Bertie E., 86, of Hillsville, passed away Saturday, December 23, 1995 at the Waddell Nursing Home, Galax, Va. Born November 27, 1909 in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the Late Harbert F. Edwards and Leona Robinson Edwards. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Laura B. (Claude) Webb, Hillsville, Miss Estie Faye Edwards, Hillsville; one brother, Howard E. Edwards, Hillsville; three nieces; and six nephews. Funeral services 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, 1995, at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, with the Rev. James Carpenter officiating. Interment in Worrell Cemetery. HALL, Ida Weeks, 98, of Snowville, passed away Sunday, December 24, 1995. She was a member of the Salem Church of God. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Oneva Brown of Supply, N.C., Mrs. Alice Farmer of Pulaski, and Mrs. Jor etta Lawrence of Salem; two sons, Burleigh R. Hall Jr. of Radford and Walford Hall of Rockville, Md.; two stepsons, John Hall and Roland Hall, both of Radford; one sister, Mrs. Cora Moles of Farmville; two half sisters, Mrs. Reman Alderman and Mrs. Kate Keith, both of Willis; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 27, 1995 at 11 a.m. at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Holley officiating. HASH, Honor Inez Young, 90, passed away Monday, December 25, 1995. She was the wife of Wayne H. Hash. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, December 27, 1995 at 7:30 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, Independence, Va.

INGHAM, Pattie Dickerson, 91, of Lynchburg, died Sunday, December 24, 1995 at the home of her daughter, Patricia Ingham Barrett in Floyd County, Va. Mrs. Ingham was born in Appomattox County on May 3, 1904. She was a daughter of the late Mattie McCraw Dickerson and Samuel Rosser Dickerson. She grew up in Amherst County and came to Lynchburg to attend Business College when she was a young girl. On a church sponsored hayride, she met Gordon Ingham, whom she married and remained his beloved ``Pat"" for sixty-three years until his death in 1985. Also preceding her in death are two of her children, Nancy Ingham DeMasters and Robert I. Ingham, who are survived by James H. DeMasters of Lynchburg and Rosemary Ingham of Fredericksburg, respectively. Mrs. Ingham is also survived by three daughters, Arlene Ingham of Flagstaff, Ariz., Jean Harrison and her husband, Jim, of Roanoke, and Patricia Ingham Barrett of Floyd; one son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Barbara Ingham of Birmingham, Ala.; one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Shearer of Lynchburg; a sister-in-law, Katherine Tinsley of Lynchburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Warren and Kathleen Tinsley of Amherst; and a devoted family friend, Elaine Smith. ``Grandma"" will be greatly missed by thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 1995, at Timberlake Baptist Church by Pastor James H. Alley and the Rev. Monroe Hedrick of Christiansburg. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Timberlake Baptist Church. McDONALD, Charles Otis, 74, of Radford, passed away Sunday, December 24, 1995 in Greensboro, N.C. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Air Force. He was a retired Lynotype operator for the Greensboro News & Record and the Commonwealth Press in Radford on a part-time basis. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Radford. Survivors include his wife, Lillian N. McDonald; two daughters, Mrs. Paula Joyce, Reidsville, N.C. and Mrs. Shirley Ball, Greensboro, N.C.; one son, Charles N. McDonald, Stokesdale, N.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Bartley and Mrs. Christina Hopkins, both of Orange; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, December 28, 1995 at Central United Methodist Church in Radford, with the Rev. Warren Wattenbarger officiating. Entombment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Dublin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Ronald McDonald House in Roanoke. NOELL, Mary Fanning, widow of Thomas Jackson Noell of Wytheville, passed away Friday, December 22, 1995. She was born in Bland County, Va. December 31, 1904, the daughter of the late George W. and Lelia Grace Mustard Fanning. She attended Concord College and taught school in West, Va. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Wilderness Road Chapter of the DAR. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Rev. James Newsom, Suffolk; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas S. and Joyce F. Noell, Roanoke; one brother and sister-in-law, Stuart and Virginia Fanning, Princeton, W. Va.; seven grandchildren, James Holt Newsom III, Norfolk, Mary Margaret McGinnis, Courtland, N.Y., Thomas Noell Newsom, Ft. PIRKEY, Melba Casey, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, December 25, 1995 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman T. Pirkey and her son-in-law, Stephen K. Johnston. Mrs. Pirkey was a charter member of Rosalind Hills Baptist Church. Surviving are her daughters, T racey E. Pirkey and Emily P. Johnston, both of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Stephanie E. Johnston, Benjamin T. Johnston and Christopher C. Johnston, all of Roanoke; sister, Wilma C. Warren, Roanoke; two brothers, James W. Casey, Roanoke and Buford Casey, Oakland, Calif. POWERS, William Alton (``Pete""), 58, of Vinton, died Friday, December 22, 1995. He was retired from Ingersoll-Rand Co. and was employed by Valleydale Foods Inc. Surviving are a daughter, Melissa P. Hambrick of Vinton; a son, Tracy W. Powers, Andrews AFB, Md., two grandchildren, Brandon Saunders and Matthew Powers; five sisters, Nancy Chewning of Vinton, Mary Jane Walters and Nadine Byrd of Florida, Sandra Monsour of Thaxton and Martha Lovern of Vinton, and two brothers, Ronald Powers of Vinton and Lonnie Powers of Roanoke. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 1995, in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton, with Pastor C. Berkley Stevens officiating. RUCKER, Robert B., 92 of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, December 23, 1995. He is survived by his wife, Nannie Bell Rucker; two daughters, Laura Stancell, Greenville, N.C., Violet Wright, Roanoke; son, Sherman Rucker, Roanoke; also surviving are 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 1995 at Lotz Roanoke Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Bowman officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. SADLER, Fredie Ingram, 98, of Rt. 1, Wytheville, died Saturday, December 23, 1995 in the Birdmont Health Care Center. She was the widow of Cloyd Sadler. She is survived by one brother, Billy Ingram, Bland; two special and devoted friends, Charlotte and Luther Cline, Wytheville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 27, 1995 at 2 p.m. in the Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Wiley Neal officiating. SHELOR, Joseph Carlton, 75, of Meadows of Dan, died Monday, December 25 in the Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C. A native of Patrick County, he was born June 9, 1920, son of the late Jessie J. Shelor and the late Clarice Blackard Shelor. He was a veteran of World War II and retired from the Rubber Thread Plant in Stuart. He was preceded in death by a son, David C. Shelor, in 1988. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bernice M. Shelor of the home; a son, Michael J. Shelor, Waynesboro; two brothers, Paul C. Shelor, Dublin, and James R. Shelor, Stuart; three sisters, Mrs. W. E. (Alda) Stanley, Stuart, Mrs. James (Lucille) Shough, Route 1, Stuart, Mrs. Willie (Becky) Wood, Meadows of Dan; 6 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the New Dan River Primitive Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. TALIAFERRO, Dennis Wesley, 77, of Roanoke, died Sunday, Decembe r 24, 1995. He was a member of the Villa Heights Baptist Church, had retired from American Viscose with 25 years service, and Roanoke City School Board with 26 years service. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Thornton and John Taliaferro; sisters, Augustine Mullins, Mewasa Taliaferro. He is survived by his wife, Thelma H. Taliaferro; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol T. and Henry Grim, Donna T. and Gary Venable; grandchildren, Melissa and Kristin Grim, Christopher and Amanda Venable; brothers, Ralph Taliaferro, Orlando, Fla., Lacy Taliaferro, Jacksonville, Fla., Stephen Taliaferro, Burlington, N.C.; sisters, Geneva Burchfield, Columbus, Ohio, Georgia Bandy, Hilda Graybill, both of Roanoke. THOMAS, Joseph McDaniel, (``J. Mac""), 84, of Green Spring Road, Abingdon, died Monday, December 25, 1995 in Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was a native of the Cleveland Community in Washington County, Va., but had lived in the Ceres Community of Bland County, Va. for most of his life. He was a graduate of King College and received a Masters Degree from Virginia Tech. He spent his career as a classroom teacher and principal in Washington and Bland Counties and was a veteran of World War II. He had served as an Elder and Clerk of The Session at Sharon Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Cleveland Presbyterian Church and numerous professional and civic organizations. Survivors include two brothers, Allen K. Thomas of Roanoke and David O. Thomas of Abingdon; six sisters-in-law, Margaret L. Thomas, Frances J. Thomas and Nerine B. Thomas, all of Abingdon, Kathleen B. Thomas of Roanoke, Mae Heslep and Elizabeth Graves, both of Narrows; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Joseph McDaniel (J. Mac) Thomas will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Sharon Presbyterian Church, Ceres, Va., with the Rev. June Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Sharon Cemetery, Ceres, Va. Pallbearers will be Tom Hagg, Donald Hagg, Randy Walker, George perry, Allen K. Thomas Jr. and David G. Thomas.
