Compared with last year's passenger traffic, the number of people boarding planes at Roanoke Regional Airport was down more than 12 percent for November and for the year to date. Mark Courtney, spokesman for the Roanoke Regional Airport Commission, said the downward trend is evident throughout the industry. He called it a result of "stabilization of fares" during 1995 after a year-long fare war among major airlines.
Last year's figures are skewed, according to Courtney, and fares are more stable now.
The number of passengers boarding in 1995, Courtney said, is "just about flat with 1993." This November, he said, was a little below the figure for November 1993 but slightly ahead of November 1992.
