WARRIORS TOP KNIGHTS

Cave Spring's late comeback fell short as guard Jeff Lang missed a potential tying 3-pointer at the buzzer as the Knights fell to Western Albemarle 35-32 on Friday in the Albemarle Invitational in Charlottesville.

The Warriors (4-3) slowed down the tempo of the game and watched Cave Spring suffer through a horrendous shooting night. The Knights made only 14 of 48 field-goal attempts.

Cave Spring (5-5) was led by Alex Phillips, who scored 10 points. Lang finished with seven.

Girls

South Cobb (Ga.) 62, Cave Spring 48: Tournament MVP Sara Thomas pumped in 32 points as the Lady Eagles beat Cave Spring (5-2) in the championship game of the Holiday Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Thomas had 17 points in the first quarter - 15 on 3-point goals- as South Cobb (8-4) bolted to a 19-1 lead and a 23-7 advantage at the end of the period.

Cave Spring (5-2) stayed even the rest of the way, but its deficit was too great to overcome.

RVC tournament

Roanoke Valley Christian 48, Patrick Henry 32: Gina Guthrie scored nine of her game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter as Roanoke Valley Christian pulled away from Patrick Henry in the Roanoke Valley Christian Invitational Classic.

Guthrie scored 15 in the second half and Rebecca Lockhart added 14 for Roanoke Valley Christian (6-1), which will play E.C. Glass tonight.

Patrick Henry, which will play Lynchburg Christian tonight, was led by Keeda Hale with 15 points.

E.C. Glass 50, Lynchburg Christian 34: The Hilltoppers didn't have a scorer in double figures, but they didn't need one in a first-round victory.

Tia Scott and Erin Reid had nine points each for E.C. Glass, which was in control throughout. Shannon Carroll led LCA with 11 points. see microfilm for box score
