BOWMAN, Nelson B., (``Paw Paw""), 68, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, December 28, 1995, at his home with family and friends by his side. He retired from Western State Insulation Co. after 24 years of service. Mr. Bowman was a member of Bible Believing Baptist Church of Buchanan and was formerly a member of Brentwood Baptist Church. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Kathleen S. Bowman; daughters and son-in-law, Rena Powell, Linda and Tommy Sparks, all of Roanoke; sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Bonnie Bowman, Bedford, Thom and Cheryl Bowman, Second Creek, W.Va.; mother and father, Annie and Roscoe Bowman, Roanoke; grandchildren, Randy Powell, Tommy Sparks Jr., Stacy Bowman, Marvin Bowman, Tammy Sparks, Tara Powell, Adrienne Bowman, Thad Bowman, Tori Bowman, Tyler Bowman; great-grandchildren, Haleigh Powell, Alexandria Sparks, Sarah Bowman; sisters, Lema Leeder of Richmond, Deloris Price of New Castle, Anna Lee Secrist of Roanoke, Sylvia Jeffries of Vinton. BRAMMER, Allen N., (``Peanut""), 86, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, December 28, 1995. He was a member of American Legion Post #3 and a long time member of Blue Hills Golf Club. Surviving are his wife, Emma H. Brammer; four sons and their wives, Kenneth and Judy Brammer, Jupiter, Fla., Robbie and Roberta Brammer, Fairfax Station, Douglas and Sylvia Bramme r, Newport News, Richard and Margaret Brammer, Roanoke; also six grandchildren; one great-grandson; a brother, William Brammer, Roanoke; sister, Sadie Rosemond, Colonial Heights; numerous nieces and nephews. COLEMAN, Everett Laird, 86, of Buena Vista, died Thursday, December 28, 1995 at his home. He was born April 18, 1909 in Rockbridge County, son of the late Harry W. Coleman and Cora Shanks Coleman. He w as preceded in death by his wife, Katie Spence Coleman; and a daughter, Marion C. Pittenger. He was a long time member of the Buena Vista Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mr. Coleman was retired from Bernson Silk Mill. Surviving are three sons, William F. Coleman and Marshall Tate Coleman, both of Buena Vista, and Ronald D. Coleman, Kent, Wash.; one daughter, Faye C. Camden, Buena Vista; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 31, 1995 at the Buena Vista Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. David Bain and Pastor Larry Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. DENTON, Wayland Beecher Jr., 84, of Winston-Salem, N.C., formerly of Bedford, passed away Friday, December 29, 1995. Arrangements by Updike Funeral Home, Bedford.

GOODWIN, Robert Oscar, 78, of Gainesville, died Friday, December 29, 1995 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock, Va. He was born December 17, 1917, a son of the late William Oscar and Xie Mae Gullett Goodwin. He was employed by the U. S. Government and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Navy. Mr. Goodwin was retired from the Army Security Agency at Vint Hill Farms Station in Warrenton after 25 years and then retired from the Computer Science Corporation in Arlington after 13 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy P. Goodwin, Gainesville; two daughters, Mary C. Goodwin, Warrenton, Dorothy G. Williams, Remington; two sons, Robert Edward Goodwin, Warrenton, William Thomas Goodwin, Woodstock; three sisters, Evelyn Giles, Roanoke, Kathleen Seymour, St. Augustine, Fla., Aliene Douglas, Hillsville; one brother, George William Goodwin, Roanoke; eleven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 1995 at Moser Funeral Home Chapel in Warrenton, Va., with the Rev. Carl Schaahl officiating. Interment in Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper, Va. KARNES, John Bennett Jr., (``J.B.''), 65, of Route 5, Bedford, died Thursday, December 28, 1995 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born May 8, 1930 in Bedford County, a son of the late John Bennet t Karnes Sr. and Eula Welch Karnes. He was a member of Sedalia Baptist Church, an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, and a farmer. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte King Karnes; a son, John Karnes, Forest; four daughters, Constance Finley, Pickens, S.C., Cynthia Barlow, Bedford, Donna Karnes and Deanna Bare, both of Forest; two brothers, Jack Karnes and Edward Karnes, both of Seymour, Ind.; a sister, Isabelle Belton, Clewiston, Fla.; also ten grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, December 31, 1995 at Carder-Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Eugene Campbell. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. LUCAS, Pauline Gautier, of Columbus, Ohio, and formerly of Giles County, died Sunday, December 24, 1995, in Columbus, Ohio. LYNCH, Virginia Jones, 78, of Roanoke, died Thursday, December 28, 1995 in a Salem hospital. Mrs. Lynch was a retired switchboard operator for Lewis-Gale Hospital for many years. Surviving are a sister and brother-in-law, Dickie and James Moynihan, Roanoke; and a niece, Polly B. Moynihan, Roanoke; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Flora Jones, Richmond. A memorial service will be at St. John's Episcopal Church 2 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 1995, with the Rev. Frank Allen and the Rev. Lottie Cochran officiating. MARSHALL, Rupert Guy, 59, of Hillsville, passed away Thursday, December 28, 1995. Funeral 2 p.m. Sunday at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel.

McCALL, Walter Bernard, 80, of Cedar Bluff, passed away Friday, December 29, 1995 at his home following a long illness. A native of Cedar Bluff, he was the son of the late Robert Gillespie and Edna Rebecca Stevenson McCall. Mr. McCall was affiliated with the mining industry his entire life, including Rebecca Coal Company, Norma Mining Company, Jewell Ridge Coal Corporation, and retired from Pittston Coal Corporation. He was active in numerous organizations and served the community for many years. He was a charter member of Gethsemane Baptist Church, member of the Tazewell County School Board for ten years, past Master of Cedar Bluff Masonic Lodge No. 260, member of Kazim Temple, Roanoke, Legion of Honor and Tazewell-Russell Shrine Club, a 32nd degree KCCH and was bestowed the honorary 33rd degree. He was honored for his work in the Shrine at the 1993 walking horse classic. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, George William McCall, John Milton McCall, David McCall, Sam McCall, Jim Tom McCall, and Jack McCall ; four sisters, Lucille Lowe, Ruth Nahodil, Miss Irene McCall, and Elizabeth Phelps. Survivors include his wife, Marie Smith McCall; two sons, Walter B. McCall Jr., Bluefield, W.Va., and wife, Elaine McCall, James Smith McCall, Cedar Bluff; one daughter, Rebecca Jane Hammons, Houston, Texas, and husband, Roger Hammons; one sister, Helen Nichols, Baltimore, Md.; one granddaughter, Holly Elizabeth Rhodes, Houston, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 31, 1995 at 3 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church, Richlands, with the Rev. John Charles and the Rev. Hugh Whitfield officiating. Entombment will follow in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be John Brown, James Reynolds, John McCall, Joseph McCall, George W. Boyd, Dr. Robert Weinacker, Fran Turner, Arney Dalton, Warren Cratch, Gale Butcher, and C. P. Mahaffey.
