FIRST HALF DOOMS RADFORD HIGHLANDERS FALL TO SOUTH CAROLINA

Larry Davis and B.J. McKie combined to score 41 points as the South Carolina Gamecocks cruised to a 90-69 victory over the Radford Highlanders in a men's college basketball game Saturday.

The Gamecocks (6-2) led 55-31 at halftime and scored 30 points off 26 Radford turnovers.

``I compliment our team for being ready to play in a game that we should win,'' Gamecocks coach Eddie Fogler said. ``We did some nice things here tonight.''

Radford (5-6) fell to 0-6 on the road this season.

`` ... Tonight we just got dominated,'' Radford coach Ron Bradley said. ``They are very athletic around the perimeter and strong defensively. We had difficulty passing the ball the first 10 minutes of the game. They have a very strong man-to-man defense.''

The Highlanders shot a dismal 39.4 percent from the field in the first half on 13-of-33 shooting. Radford picked it up in the second half, making 13 of 27 field-goal attempts and outscored South Carolina 38-35. But the first-half deficit was too much to overcome.

Jason Lansdown, who led the Highlanders with 11 points, was the only Radford player to score in double figures.

Davis led all scorers with 21, and McKie added 20. Melvin Watson chipped in 19 for the Gamecocks.
