ALLISON, Buell Edwin, 85, of Bedford, formerly of Bluefield, W. Va., died Monday, January 1, 1996 in Oakwood Manor, Bedford. He was born in Casey, Kentucky on October 31, 1910, son of the late Alvin A. Allison and Mabel Cunningham Allison. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Harvey Perdue Allison, was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Bluefield, a Charter member of the South Bluefield Kiwanis Club and was an Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by four nephews, William H. Duis of Virginia Beach, Frederick M. Duis of Bedford, Peter Perdue, Petaluma, Calif. and Thomas Perdue, Alexandria; five nieces, Louise Duis Cary, Tuscaloosa, Ala., Elizabeth (Betsy) Thomas, Gulf Beach, Fla., Carolyn Johnson, Huntsville, Ala., Greta Forsythe, Hockessin, Del. and Carla Peterson, Boylston, Ma. Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside in Monte Vista Memorial Gardens, Bluefield, Thursday, January 4, 1996 at 11:30 a.m., with the Rev. Francis B. Avery Jr. officiating. BLACK, Douglas Cecil (``Dee''), of Naples, Fla., son of the late Elbert G. Black and Kitty Meredith Black, went to be with the Lord, Monday, January 1, 1996 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. A Pulaski County native, Dee spent 20 years of service in the U.S. Army. He served his country in foreign assignments in Korea and Germany. Stateside, he served in North Carolina, Maryland, Colorado and Virginia. His Army career included logistics, recruiting, career counseling and ROTC Instructor at Virginia Tech. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1968 as a Master Sergeant with numerous commendations for excellent performance during service to his country. Dee's civic commitment was evident through his leadership and participation in the Junior Chamber of Commerce, as a member and past president. His community was a light of brightness for him, as he completed every goal. He also was active in Ruritan Club, scouting, and sandlot football. He was a member of Pulaski Elks Lodge. He was a past member of the First Baptist Church and First Methodist Church of Pulaski. Until his passing, he was an act ive member of Hope Wesleyan Church in Naples. Since retirement, Dee has been involved in various business endeavors and retired from Collier County Public Schools as Director of Purchasing on June 30, 1994. Dee is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Carolyn (``Teddy'') Ferguson Black; his children, Michelle (``Jingle'') Woodmancy and family, Hank and Zachariah, Shawn Douglas Black and family, Deloris and Charity, all of Southwest Florida; his stepchildren, Jodie Hale and family, Sherwood, Lori, T.K., Adam and Haley, Bill Hale and family, Helene and Jacob, Tim Hale and family, Teresa, Ryan, Torie; also surviving are brothers and sisters, Isabel Akers, Sarah (``Tip'') Quillen, Elbert G. Black, Jr., Jewel Shufflebarger, all of Pulaski, Charles (``Zack'') Black, Bedford; one sister, deceased, Shirley Underwood. Family and friends will honor Dee with a candlelight ``Celebration of Everlasting Life'', at 7 p.m. Friday, January 5, 1996 at the United Methodist Church, Pulaski. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Daily Bread. Friends will be received by the family at a memorial service at Stevens Funeral Chapel on Randolph Ave., Pulaski. Dee's family will remember him as a child of God, an angel on earth who touched the lives of everyone he met. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
BOMBERGER, Addison Stauffer, 89, of Roanoke, formerly of Venice, Fla., died Monday, Jan uary 1, 1996, at the Roanoke United Methodist Home. He was born in Swatara, Pennsylvania, September 28, 1906, the son of Christian Smith Bomberger and Ella Sara Stauffer Bomberger. He attended high school in Reading, Pa. and graduated in 1928 from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Architectural Engineering. In 1929, he entered the Federal Civil Service as an architect in Washington, D.C. He retired from Federal service in 1970 as Director of Engineering Services at NASA. he was predeceased by his wife, Monsita Pereyo' Bomberger in 1983. He is survived by his sons, Alan J. Bomberger of Roanoke; John D. Bomberger of Denver, Colo.; his sister, Mary Catherine Bolden of Annville, Pa. He leaves four grandchildren, Christina J. Bomberger of Seattle, Washington, Christina M. Fife of Phoenix, Ariz., John D. Bomberger II of Santa Barbara, Calif., William Bomberger of San Francisco, Calif.; one great-grandson, Tristan Duncan Fife of Phoenix, Ariz. BOYDEN, Eva Gladys Moore, 81, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, December 31, 1995. Survivors include one son, Robert R. Boyden, Jr.; one grandson, David R. FRAZIER, Sadie Skeens, 88, of Narrows, died Monday, January 1, 1996 in the Giles Memorial Hospital, Pearisburg. A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born in Narrows on April 5, 1907, and was the daughter of the late E. Cam and Ethel Blankenship Skeens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack H. Frazier; and a son, Arnold Frazier. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Narrows. She is survived by her son and his wife, Jerry and Anna Lee Frazier, Narrows, another son, Wade H. Frazier, Rich Creek; three grandsons and their wives, Kelly and Beth Frazier, Narrows, Scott and Pat Frazier, Raleigh, N.C., Bryan and Crissy Frazier, Jacksonville, N.C.; six great-grandchildren, Meaghan Frazier, Nathan Frazier, Kelly Elizabeth Frazier, Alec Frazier, Christopher Frazier, Bryanna Elizabeth Frazier. HALE, Addie C., 87, of Rocky Mount, died Sunday, December 31, 1995. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Alice Tookes, Winter Park, Fla.; one son, Russell Earl Hale, Rocky Mount; other relatives and friends. HEARD, Claude W., 75, of Route 1, Union Hall, died Tuesday, January 2, 1996, at Franklin Manor. He was born in New Albany, Miss., on July 23, 1920, a son of the late Clara and Richard Heard. Mr. Heard was educated in Jackson, Tenn., a graduate of Union University, attended George Washington University, and was a graduate of West Tennessee Business College. Mr. Heard was retired after 30 years of service from the State Department and the Defense Department of the U. S. Govermnent. He also was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. Mr. Heard was a past president of the Rocky Mount Lions Club, a member of Woodmen of the World and listed in Who's Who in America in 1994. He was secretary-treasurer of the SPO Fraternity and president of his college graduation class of 1950. Mr. Heard served for 52 years as Sunday school teacher with membership in various churches, including Glade Hill and Franklin Heights Baptist Churches in Franklin County. Surviving are his wife, Libby Heard; one son, John Heard of Rocky Mount, and one grandson, John Claude Heard. Funeral services will be conducted from Franklin Heights Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. J. Larry Holland and the Rev. Mark Griffith officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials be made to Franklin Heights Baptist Church, Hilltop Drive, Rocky Mount. PERDUE, Robert Lee, 83, of the Snow Creek Community, died Tuesday, January 2, 1996, in a Martinsville nursing home. He was a son of the late John W. and Ella Law Perdue, and was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Haynes Perdue. Mr. Perdue was a member of the Snow Creek Christian Church. ROSE, Ronald, of Richmond, died on December 31, 1995 after a prolonged illness. Mr. Rose is survived by his mother, Rebecca Rose, Franklin County; his son, William C. Rose; his stepdaughter, Cynthia Kegley; his maternal aunt, Ruth M. Cunningham, all of Richmond. Mr. Rose was a well-known fine artist in the Richmond area. His works are displayed in many private and corporate collections, nationally. The family will be cond ucting a private remembrance. A memorial celebration of his life is planned for the spring, according to Mr. Rose's wishes. SMITH, Raymond Foster, 72, of Winchester, died Monday, January 1, 1996, in Winchester. Mr. Smith was born in Moline, Ill. He was part owner/operator and a consulting engineer for Smith and Faass Consulting Engineering in Rockville, Md. He was a member of the Almas Temple of Washington, D.C., East Coast Soaring Society and Fir st Presbyterian Church of Winchester. He was preceded in death by his wife, June Ross Smith, in July 1994. WAGNER, Dennis Howard, 54, of Snellville, Ga., died Monday, January 1, 1996, at Eastside Medical Center following an extended illness. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Wagner of Snellville; a son and daughter-in-law, Tobey and Lee Ann Wagner of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Jimmy Wolfe of Roanoke, Va.; his mother, Dorothy Wagner of Covington, Ga.; his brother, Larry Wagner of Covington, Ga., and four grandchildren, Drew, Katie, Caroline and Rebecca Wagner of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Dennis, a native of Covington, Ga., made his home in Snellville, Ga., for the past 18 years. He was employed by First Union Bank, and was a member of Snellville United Methodist Church. Mr. Wagner, a popular, well-known umpire, was scheduled to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for Umpires on January 20, 1996, in Macon, Ga. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 1996, at Snellville United Methodist Church, with Dr. James Moneyhan officiating. Interment will be in Snellville Historical Cemetery.
