FORUM IN RESPONSE TO SHOOTING|

All area clergy are invited to a special forum sponsored by the Montgomery County Human Relations Council Tuesday, from noon to 2 p.m., at the Jewish Community Center on Roanoke Street in Blacksburg. Council President Oscar Williams said the forum's purpose is for clergy "to make proactive responses to issues concerning community climate." The forum is in response to the shooting death of Maurice Taylor in August by Blacksburg police after Taylor pulled what turned out to be a BB gun when officers were trying to arrest him.

SERVICES

Christiansburg's Holy Spirit Catholic Church will celebrate Mass at 5 p.m. today at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Cambria Street. The readings will be Isaiah 60:1-6; Ephesians 3:2-3, 5-6; Matthew 2:1-12. 382-8028.

Blacksburg's Metaphysical Chapel, on the corner of Church and Lee streets, will host John Dumais, who will speak on "The Path of Intimate Relationships," Sunday at 7 p.m. 951-4848.

``Principle-Centered Ministry" will be the Rev. Rudi Gelsey's topic Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the New River Valley on Gladewood Drive in Blacksburg. Arlene Herndon will lead a discussion on "Art Education With an Agenda" during the roundtable discussion at 8:45 a.m. 552-2717.

Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church will have a revival with the Rev. Glennard Quesenberry, Sunday through Wednesday. Sunday services will be at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., and services Monday through Wednesday will be at 7 p.m. 552-5070.

First Missionary Baptist Church in New River will have an installation of officers service Jan. 14 at 4 p.m. The Rev. Donald Clayborne will be guest speaker. 639-6947.

Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Cambria Street in Christiansburg conducts an informal evening worship Wednesdays at 7 p.m. The 45-minute service is for people who work on weekends, community newcomers, and people looking for a mid-week worship opportunity. 382-2223.

JOYFUL NOISES

The monthly gospel singing at the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union Hall in Fairlawn will be Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. Performing will be Ed Hypes and the Highland Gospel Singers, with special guests the Bluegrass Gospel band with soloist Wanda Gail. Admission is free for the 70th consecutive month of gospel music by local performers. 382-4654.

SPECIAL EVENTS

A half- hour Bible study especially for lunch-hour workers has begun at First United Methodist Church in Pulaski. The Rev. Norman Wilhoit, pastor, will lead the group in Kirchner Chapel. The study will be from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. It will continue through May 22.

At Trinity Lutheran Church in Pulaski a study of the book of Revelation has begun and will continue through February. Sessions begin at 7 p.m. and are taught by the Rev. Terrie Sternberg, pastor. The class is open to the community. Call 980-3624 for more information.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be observed by Pulaski church people Jan. 18 through 25 with an ecumenical service Jan. 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church at 7 p.m. Open to all Christians in Pulaski County, the service has a focus of Christ as savior and changer of lives. Preaching will be the Rev. Norman Wilhoit, pastor of First United Methodist Church and newly elected president of the Pulaski Ministerial Association.

Observance of the week, which includes Protestant, Anglican and Roman Catholic participants, commemorates the work of Christian saints Peter and Paul.

Christian Community Outreach in Radford has a food outreach on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union Hall in Fairlawn. Food boxes will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to people who meet USDA income criteria. 639-5686.

PEOPLE

First Baptist Church of Radford will commission Jan and Shirley Levy for medical missions service in the Middle East at the 11 a.m. worship Sunday. The Levys will leave this month for the three-month assignment under the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship's mission program.
