At the Reptilian Pavilion, the Roanoke Express finally snaked out of its road doldrums.
A three-goal second period explosion, coupled with a crucial late score by Jeff Jablonski, led Roanoke to a 4-3 victory over the Jacksonville Lizard Kings on Friday night. The triumph snapped a seven-game winless streak on the road for the Express.
Trailing 1-0 entering the second period, Roanoke (20-17-1) rattled off three consecutive goals. Chris Potter tied the score and matched his career high with his 11th goal of the season, beating goalie Jim Jensen through the pads from a severe angle at 2:22.
Tim Christian gave the Express the lead for good by deflecting in a Dave Stewart power-play blast form the center point at 12:51.
The Express continued its offensive explosion a little more three minutes later. Jeff Jestadt sent L.P. Charbonneau up the middle on a breakaway, but the Express wing was denied by Jensen. Dave Holum scooped up the rebound and fed Jestadt streaking through the slot, and his backhand shot beat Jensen on the stick side for his 13th goal at 15:06.
ICE CHIPS: Craig Herr was expected back in the lineup Saturday night at South Carolina after missing eight games with a broken bone in his back ... The Express' Jason Clarke was ejected in the second period after brawling with Doug Evans, who also was ejected, for the second time ... Holum suffered a broken nose on a first period hit by Francois LeRoux that sent Holum face first into the Plexiglas - Leroux was not penalized on the play.
