Roanoke County has scheduled a public meeting Thursday for people to learn more about Wilshire, developer Len Boone's proposed subdivision along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Roanoke County Administration Building on Virginia 419.
Boone's plan to build homes within sight of the national scenic highway spurred public fury several years ago and prompted a couple of lawsuits. Since last year, Boone has been working with parkway and county officials to design a mutually pleasing development: one that meets housing market demands while preserving the rural landscape.
A key figure in the negotiations was Carlton Abbott, a Williamsburg architect whose father was chief designer and first superintendent of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Boone, Abbott, parkway officials and members of the county planning staff will discuss the plans for Wilshire and will entertain questions from the public.
The proposal will go before the county Planning Commission on Feb. 6.
In case of inclement weather, call 772-2003 or 772-2010 to find out whether the meeting is still on.
