Nancy Chang is a familiar name among local fans of Chinese cuisine. The professionally trained chef, with more than 21 years of teaching experience, in mid-January and mid-February will offer her popular series of classes, combining authentic Chinese cooking with snippets of Chinese culture.
January's lessons will cover proper use of a wok, cleaver and steamer; February's will emphasize healthy Chinese dishes. Menus will include a variety of meat, seafood and vegetable dishes. Classes typically offer students some hands-on preparation experience and always include either lunch or a light dinner.
The four-week sessions will meet 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 16 - Feb. 6; and from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Thursdays from Jan. 18-Feb. 8. For menu specifics, costs, the mid-February schedule and other information, call Chang at 774-8432.
Cooking and foods-related classes - including herbs, vegetarian, bread baking, kitchen novice and fat-busting - also are being offered through Roanoke City Parks and Recreation, 981-2236, and Roanoke County Public Schools Continuing/Adult Education, 857-5040 or 857-5042.
