Memorial march
A march in recognition of the Dr. Martin Luther King holiday will be held Monday, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Poff Federal Building, 215 Franklin Road S.W., Roanoke.
The march will proceed to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Fifth Street, for a noon service.
The event, sponsored by Concerned Citizens for Justice U.S.A., will march for jobs, justice and peace.

Role models sought
In celebration of Black History Month, WSLS-TV will salute eight area role models, ranging in age from high school students to senior citizens.
The station is accepting nominations with a brief description of the person's outstanding accomplishments.

Museum volunteers
If you are interested in donating your time to help preserve Roanoke's transportation heritage, the staff of The Virginia Museum of Transportation invites you to be their guests at a volunteer open house Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. at the museum.
Programs involve restoration, the Resource and Archives Library, tour guides, yard masters and working in the front ticket office.
Volunteers receive membership discounts and free admission to all museum-sponsored activities and exhibit openings.

Mill Mountain musical
``Falsettos,'' a musical touted as a call for a ``reassessment of the concept of family,'' opens Jan. 19 in Mill Mountain Theatre's Theatre B.
The play runs through Jan. 28 in the 20 E. Church Avenue theater, with shows at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $11 to $13, with discounts available on some shows to students and seniors.

Free trees
Ten free flowering trees will be given to each person who joins The National Arbor Day Foundation during January. The membership fee is $10.
The trees include white flowering dogwoods, flowering crabapples, golden raintrees, Washington Hawthorn and American redbuds.
``These compact trees were selected for planting in large or small spaces,'' said John Rosenow, the foundation's president. ``They will give ... pink, white and yellow flowers and also provide winter berries and nesting sites for songbirds.''
The trees will be shipped postpaid at the appropriate planting time with instructions enclosed. The trees are guaranteed to grow or they will be replaced free of charge.
Members also receive a subscription to the foundation's bimonthly publication and ``The Tree Book'' with information on tree planting and care.
