CALL BEFORE GOING TO DONATE BLOOD

Radford residents wishing to respond to the New River Valley's blood emergency with a donation should contact the donor center in Blacksburg to set up an appointment.

The New River Valley Donor Center, at 130 Jackson St. between Draper Road and North Main Street in Blacksburg, is the only site for blood collection today in the Montgomery-Radford area, said Paula Downs of the American Red Cross office in Radford.

But because of forecasts of more snow, potential donors should call 961-2207 today before venturing out to make sure the center is still open.

There is one other blood drive scheduled for today in Pearisburg at the Giles Rescue Squad.

The valley's blood supply is down to a half-day on the shelf, Downs said. At least 56 days must have passed since your last donation.
