HOKIES CAN GO HOME AGAIN; HERE'S HOW TO GET TO DORMS

Friday's subdued snowstorm changed a plan hatched Thursday by Virginia Tech officials to ensure a smooth move-in when the dormitories open at noon today.

For the record, here's the latest:

Washington Street will be open one-way, westbound, and parking will be allowed on both sides of the street, Tech police chief Mike Jones said. Buses will stand by in I-Lot (also called The Cage) and the Stadium Lot to help ferry students to their nearby dorms.

Classes still are scheduled to begin Monday, although a two-day amnesty from the university's automatic drop policy is being granted, spokesman Larry Hincker said. That means students who don't show up on the first two days of classes won't be dropped, as is the normal case, he said.
