Chamber to meet

BLACKSBURG - The Christiansburg-Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce will have a business after-hours mixer Jan. 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn.

Regional Family Care Centers will sponsor the event, and music will be provided by Kool Country 100.7 FM

New NRCC courses offered

DUBLIN - New River Community College will offer the first of six classes toward a production and inventory management certificate beginning Thursday.

The course will cover many aspects of inventory management, including determining when, what and how many items to order, and how and where to store them. The course's goal is to increase customer service, profit, and inventory and distribution operations.

Instructor Robert Goncz will use materials approved by the American Production and Inventory Control Society.

Tuition for the two-credit class is $99.30. Other classes on materials and capacity requirement planning, master planning, Just-In-Time, production activity control, and systems technologies will be scheduled depending on enrollment.

Hospital gets accreditation

RADFORD - The Center for Rehabilitative Medicine, an affiliate of Radford Community Hospital, has been given a three-year accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitative Facilities.

The center's programs for chronic pain and occupational rehabilitation received special commendation.

"The occupational rehabilitation program is well organized and systemically addressed deficiencies, deficits and concerns about strength and endurance in relation to specific work tasks. Client and referral sources also are satisfied with the process and outcomes," the commission reported.

Quality-control group to meet

SALEM - The American Society for Quality Control will meet Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Salem.

The meeting will begin with a "Talking Quality Techniques" discussion followed by a social and dinner. The program will be "Financial Strategies for the '90s - Members Survival Guide."

Group to discuss the Internet

BLACKSBURG - The New River Valley Chapter of the National Association of Purchasing Management has rescheduled its meeting because of snow from this Tuesday until Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 6:15 p.m. at the Holiday Inn.

The topic for the meeting will be "Purchasing on the Internet." The cost is $11.
