3-day blood drive planned at Tech
BLACKSBURG - Red Cross officials are hoping that a blood drive at Virginia Tech Jan. 23-25 will bring in at least 600 units of blood.
The blood is desperately needed, officials say, because recent snow storms have disrupted blood collection operations. Blood supplies at some locations are enough to serve hospitals for only one or two days.
Blood platelets, which have a shelf life of about five days, are expiring and in especially short supply.
The blood drive will occur from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day in Squires Student Center's Commonwealth Ballroom.
For more information, call 961-2207.

The course will be led by Bob Stuart.
"We're going to explore the 'energy of community' in the course," he said. Participants will discuss how to become active in implementing "Vision 2020," which details some of the ways the New River Valley could develop over the next 25 years.
Meetings will be held in the Community Room at the New River Valley Mall. Registration times are today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Virginia Tech's Squires Student Center, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at the YMCA Office located at 403 Washington St. in Blacksburg.
Majic-105 moves to 105.3 FM
RADFORD - Adult contemporary radio station Majic-105 recently moved to 105.3 FM, allowing the station to broadcast a stronger signal to its listening area. The move means that Majic-105 and country music station WPSK are the only two stations in the New River Valley to operate with C-3 status, which is more powerful than other stations in the area. Listeners only have to move the dial up two settings to tune in to the station's new frequency.
