GAULDIN, Major Kenneth Lewis, Jr., 39, Ret. U.S. Army, died at his home in Cross Junction, Va. on January 17, 1996. In early years, he was active in local C.A.P. Chapter. Kenny was a graduate of Northside Senior High School in 1974, graduated from VPI & SU in the Cadet Corp in 1979. He entered the Army 82nd. Airborne at Fort Bragg, N.C. While in the service at Fort Bliss, Texas, he received his Masters Degree from Webster University at El Paso, Texas. Kenny is survived by his wife, Susan Shull Gauldin; two sons, Christopher T. and Andrew D., at home. He is also survived by his father and mother, Kenneth Lewis Sr. and Geraldine Arthur Gauldin; also two brothers, Darin E. and Gerald L., of Roanoke. His funeral will be Saturday, January 20, 1996 at Fellowship Baptist Church, Winchester. He is at the Jones Funeral Home.

HURT, Mary Ann, 89, of Ferrum, passed away Monday, January 8, 1996 at Eldercare of Franklin County. Born December 13, 1906, she was a daughter of the late Robert Duncan and Mary Esther Savage Wescott, of the Eastern Shore of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her only sister, Ruth Wescott Downing, who lived in Somerset, Bermuda. Mrs. Hurt attended Central High School of Washington, D.C., now Cardozo High School, was a graduate of George Washington University, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, a member of the Women's Club of Rocky Mount, and the Patrick Henry Chapter of DAR in Martinsville. She joined the DAR in Alexandria, and was later a regent of the William Winchester Chapter DAR in Westminster, Md. She was a member of the auxiliary of Franklin Memorial Hospital and inaugurated a baby cap project for the hospital. The auxilians have made hundreds of caps for the babies born at Franklin Memorial Hospital. She was also a member of the Historical Society of Franklin County. She and her husband, Dr. Frank B. Hurt, resided in Westminster, Md. for 35 years, where he was a member of the faculty of Western Maryland College. Since 1965, she had resided in Ferrum, where Dr. Hurt was a member of Ferrum College faculty for five years. In 1970 he retired and wrote THE HISTORY OF FERRUM COLLEGE. Dr. Hurt died in 1992. Mrs. Hurt is survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 1996 at Lynch Funeral Home, with the Revs. James S. Angle and M. G. Goodpasture, and Professor Earl Grayson ""Bud"" Skeens officiating. Interment will follow in High Street Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services. KASEY, Sherman H., of Goodview, departed this life on Saturday, January 13, 1996. He wa s born in Goodview on August 22, 1922 to the late James Winston and Lena Jordon Kasey. He was married to the late Alice Prunty Kasey of Rocky Mount. He was a 1939 graduate of Lucy Addison High School. He served in the U.S.. Navy during World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific and American Theaters, where he received several medals before his retirement in 1961. After retirement, he studied Optometry at the New York School of Optometry, but did not practice. He is survived by a daughter, Shirley Kasey Greer; and son-in-law, Thomas Greer of Cleveland Hgts., Ohio; two granddaughters, Kasey Lynn and Janna Whitney Greer of Cleveland Hgts., Ohio; a sister, Maggie Kasey Harris, Salisbury, Md.; a cousin, Lillian Newman, Roanoke; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at noon at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
KEITH, Luther Powers, 92, of Buchanan, died Wednesday, January 17, 1996. He was a member of the Buchanan Baptist Church and predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Zettie Hodges Keith; son, Luther William Keith; and grandson, Gary Wayne Keith. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis and Helen Keith, Gerald and Francis Keith, Karl and Carol Keith, all of Buchanan; daughters and sons-in-law, Garnett Haynes, Lynchburg, Janie Horne, Vinton, Marie Austin, Montvale, Ruth and Tommy Holley, Buchanan, Kathy and Bob Semales, Great Falls; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. LIVESAY, Jack Hunter, 74, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, January 18, 1996 in a local hospital. He was an army veteran of World War II, and was retired from Dominion Bank. MINARD, Katherine K., 83, of Radford, died suddenly at her home, Wednesday, January 17, 1996. Mrs. Minard was a native of Morris County, N.J., and lived there 69 years before moving to Radford 14 years ago. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Michael and Thersa Feicheat Kranisfield. She was the widow of Robert K. Minard Sr., former mayor and township committeeman of Chester, N.J. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Vance Umberger, of Radford; two stepsons, CDR Robert K. Minard Jr., U.S.N., Retired, of Danbury, N.H., James P. Minard, Everett, Wash; three grandsons and their families, Kevin and Heather Ford, Blacksburg, Brian and Amy Ford, Roanoke, Steven and Jennifer Ford, Midloathian; one great-grandson, Will Ford; a stepgrandaughter, Rhonda Umberger and family of Radford. She was a nurse for many years at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital, area nursing homes, and in private duty nursing in Morris County, N.J. In Radford, she delivered Meals on Wheels for a number of years for Radford Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her son, Charles E. Minard; a stepson, Francis L. Minard. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Warren H. Wattenbarger officiating. ROSS, Raymond O., 69, of Flatridge, the Rockbridge Community, passed away Thursday, January 18, 1996, at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tenn. He was born August 31, 1926, at Flatridge to Dawn Lane Ross of Chilhowie and the late Emmitt Ross. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, and was a school bus driver in Grayson County for 32 years. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Edna Anderson Ross of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Vickie Ross of Hillsville; two daughters, Patricia Lester of Fries and Phyllis Ross of Troutdale; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. TILLMAN, Nancy Copeland Russell, 55, of Wolf Creek, W. Va., near Alderson, died Wednesday, January 17, 1996 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was formerly a 30 year resident of Roanoke She was born January 31, 1940 at Alderson, W. Va., the daughter of the late James Andrew Russell and Nellie Copeland Russell of Alderson. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by three children, David Lee Tillman, Bryant James Tillman and Dianna Lynn Tillman. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Grandin Court Baptist Church in Roanoke, and was a member of the Friendship Class. TRINKO, Arthur R., 92, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, January 13, 1996. He was born on February 25, 1903, in Menomonie, Wisconsin, and wa s a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Stout. After teaching high school and coaching basketball in Morenci, Arizona, and Knoxville, Tennessee, he worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority. He taught mechanical drawing at Jefferson High School from 1947 until his retirement from the Roanoke City Public Schools in 1968. After his retirement, he taught several more years at Liberty High School in Bedford. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rosalie Shea Trinko; his son, Robert W. Trinko, Midlothian; his daughter, Linda Trinko Banister, Springfield; five grandchildren, Elizabeth and Caroline Banister, Mark, Tracy and Andrew Trinko; and a brother, Paul A. Trinko, White Marsh, Md. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 1996, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Kenneth Lane officiating. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 20, 1996, 2:00 p.m. at the Rader Troutville Chapel with the Rev. Robert Sadler officiating. Interment will follow in the Daleville Cemetery.
