Bland built an early lead and withstood a fourth-quarter comeback to defeat Shawsville 45-43 in high school basketball Saturday night in Shawsville.
The Rockets (3-4) led the entire way after forging a 14-5 lead in the first quarter, but the Shawnees (1-8) nearly pulled it out at the end.
Shawsville made it close in the fourth but could never tie the score or go ahead.
Lee Meadows led Bland with 14 points. Chris Graham led the Shawnees with 11 points.
Franklin County 61, Pulaski County 54: Jeremey Adkins scored the go-ahead basket on a 3-pointer as the Eagles held off the Cougars in a Roanoke Valley District matchup in Rocky Mount.
Adkins scored back-to-back 3-pointers and added a free throw to lead Franklin County in the fourth quarter.
The Eagles (3-11, 1-1 RVD) had an 11-point lead to open the third quarter, but made just two of three shots and got no rebounds while being outscored 16-5 in the third.
The Cougars (3-6, 0-3) held the ball 2-3 minutes before shooting, but couldn't keep up in the end.
The Eagles, which shot 45 percent for the game, got 19 points from Brad McCall, 17 from K.C. Hancock and 12 from Adkins.
Jamar McNair paced Pulaski County with 17 points, while Dorian Hendricks added 14 and Ron Branch 11.
Radford 66, Auburn 49: John Robertson scored all of his 17 points in the first half on 3-pointers as the Bobcats rolled to a 26-point halftime lead and defeated the Eagles in a Three Rivers District game in Radford.
Radford (7-2, 2-0) emptied its bench in the second half while being outscored 31-20, but it wasn't enough for Auburn.
Derrick Chapman added 17 points for the Bobcats and Larnell Lewis 13.
Jason Epperly paced the Eagles with 18 points and Kenny Wojiechowski added 15.
Oak Hill 92, Washington College 41: The Warriors placed four players in double figures in their 51-point win over Washington College Academy.
Oak Hill (19-2) led 45-15 at halftime. They were led by Steve Jackson and Attila Cosby who each poured in 23 points each. Jackson also had nine assists and eight steals. Ricardo Crumble added 10 points and 12 rebounds and teammate Ed Sheffey chipped in 16 points.
Washington College Academy (8-4) was led by Damond Davis' 12 points.
Gateway Christian 50, Calvary Christian 46: The Crusaders carried a three-point lead into the half and held on for the four-point victory over Calvary Christian in King, North Carolina.
Ryan Gordon led Gateway Christian (5-4) with 19 points and 11 rebounds and teammate J.T. Surface added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Clayton Maynard led Calvary Christian (5-2) with 14 points.
Bath County 60, Alleghany 36: The Chargers pulled away from an eight-point lead with a big fourth quarter to defeat the Mountaineers at Dabney Lancaster Community College in Clifton Forge.
David Buzzard led a balanced offense for Bath County, which outscored Alleghany 25-9 in the final period, with 12 points. Jon Rodgers added 10.
Donald Downing was the top scorer for the Mountaineers, with eight points.
Glenvar 51, James River 46: The Highlanders broke open a tie game in the fourth quarter to beat the Knights in a Pioneer District game in Buchanan.
Glenvar (4-0 district, 8-4 overall) led by three at the half but found themselves deadlocked at 37 after three quarters. Corey Willis led the Highlanders with 12 points while teammate James Williams added 11. James River (0-4 district, 6-4 overall) was led by Chris Firebaugh who pured in 11 points.
Girls
Pulaski County 85, Franklin County 44: The Cougars bolted out to a 37-18 halftime lead and never looked back in their 41-point demolition of the Eagles in a Roanoke Valley District game in Rocky Mount.
Pulaski County (8-5 overall, 6-0 RVD) was led by Lisa Skeens' 15 points. Teammates Katrina Williams and Robyn Bower added 14 and 13, respectively.
Franklin County's (1-10, 0-5) Leshon Brooks netted 12 points.
