CELEBRATIONS

Amrhein-Howard

Malinda Catherine Howard and Chadwick Scott Amrhein were married January 13, 1996, at the Vinton Baptist Church with the Reverend Kenneth Butterworth officiating. The reception was held at the Vinton War Memorial.

The bride is the daughter of Robert Lee and Constance Wimmer Howard of Thaxton, Va., formerly of Roanoke County. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Oliver Amrhein of Bent Mountain, Va.

The matron of honor was the bride's mother, Constance Wimmer Howard. The bridesmaids were Jacquelyn Denise Amrhein-Sells of Roanoke, Va., Deidre Riffe of Falls Mills, Va., and Karen Green of Goodview, Va. Miss Josie Via of Roanoke was the flower girl. Master James Wimmer of Stewartsville, Va., was the ring bearer.

The groom's father, Russell Oliver Amrhein, was best man. The groomsmen were Mark King of Bent Mountain, Va., Tom Sells, Brian Myers, Aaron Pinson of Roanoke, and David Howard, the bride's brother of Thaxton, Va. The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her father.

The coordinators were Charlene Wolfe of Vinton, Va., and Christopher Widdows of Salem, Va. The guest book was attended by Remona Owens of Roanoke, Va. Music for the ceremony was performed by Lisa Kutz of Christiansburg, Va., as both soloist and pianist.

Mrs. Amrhein is a graduate of Cave Spring High School and is attending Virginia Western Community College and is employed by Old Dominion Insurance Group as an Insurance Agent.

The groom is a graduate of Cave Spring High School and attends Virginia Western Community College. He is employed by Amrhein's Fine Jewelry, Brid es and Formals of Roanoke, Va.

Following a honeymoon at Cesar's Poconos in Pennsylvania, they will reside in Thaxton, Va.

Bollinger-Rice

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Rice of Roanoke and Mr. and Mrs. James Bollinger of New Jersey wish to announce the engagement of their children, Don Rice and Leanne Bollinger. Leanne attended Rutgers University and is a graduate of Radford University. She is currently employed by the Radford City School System. Don attended Northern State University in South Dakota, served four years in the Marine Corps and played professional football in Europe. He is currently attending Radford University and is employed as a Teacher and Coach by the Radford City School System. Both are living in Radford and are planning a June 1997 wedding

Bowles birth

Breanna Lacy Bowles was born November 25, 1995 at 4:55 a.m. in Community Hospital, Roanoke, Va. She weighed 8 lbs. 81/4 ozs. and was 21 inches long. Breanna's proud parents are David and Sarah C. Bowles of Rocky Mount, Va. She has two brothers, Daniel, age 10 and Joshua, age 8. Maternal grandparents are Ford and Thelma Cundiff of Rocky Mount and paternal grandparents are Frank and Nellie Bowles of Bassett, Va. The attending physician was Dr. Randall Falls and the Delivery Nurse was Claire Ridgeway.

Bowyer birth

We wish to proudly announce the birth of our son, Zachary Harrison. He was born on January 1st, 1996, 3:10 p.m. at Community Hospital. He weighed 7 lbs. 2 1/4 ozs. and was 191/2 inches long. Parents are Rick and Teresa Bowyer. Maternal grandparents are Lindy and Betsy Ganoe and the late Harrison Holland. Paternal grandparents are the late George W. Bowyer and the late Barbara G. Bowyer.

We want to express our sincere thanks to Dr. John Wilks for his help in achieving this miracle. Special thanks are also extended to Dr. Beth Collins and Mrs. Pat Stoner for superb prenatal care. Dr. Donna Grove and Mrs. Martha Cadd did a wonderful job with Zachary's delivery.

Sincere appreciation is sent to both families and all of our friends for their prayers and support. And most of all, we thank God for our little angel. We love you Zach

Coleman-Powell

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Coleman of Roanoke are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Yvette Angela Coleman, to Lee Michael Powell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald L. Powell, also of Roanoke.

Miss Coleman is a graduate of William Byrd High School and Virginia Western Community College, and will graduate from the College o f Health Sciences in May 1996. She is employed by Community Hospital. Mr. Powell is also a graduate of William Byrd High School. He is employed by Cardinal Rubber and Seal.

The wedding is planned for October 19, 1996 in Roanoke

Corbin-Ellis

Stacey Lynn Corbin and Brian Lee Ellis are engaged and planning to be married on September 28, 1996 in Fairfax, Va. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Corbin of Bel Air, Md. She was graduated from George Mason Univ. where she earned a BA Degree in Communications. She is employed by Stanton Communications of Washington, DC as Assistant Account Executive. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lionel Ellis of Roanoke, Va. He was graduated from Cave Spring High School and George Mason Univ. where he earned a BS Degree in Finance. He is employed by Cambridge Associates of Arlington, Va. as a Financial Analyst.

Coulter birth

Ken and Paula (the proud parents) and Tia (the proud big sister) would like to announce the birth of Holden Garret. He was born on Dec. 11, 1995, weighing 6 lbs. 4 1/2 ozs. and was 20 1/2 inches tall. We would like to give a special thanks to OB/GYN Dr. Jacobs and L and D nurse Kim for the excellent care given to Paula and Holden and for a job well done. And a special thanks to Kim Belcher for all of her help and kindness.|

Cox-Blackburn

Susan Alicia Cox and Jason Cadell Blackburn are engaged and planning to be married on October 5, 1996 in Radford. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cox of Riner. She graduated from Auburn High School and is a senior at Radford University. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cadell R. Blackburn of Radford. He graduated from Radford High School and attended New River Community College. He is employed by Virginia Department of Corrections.|

Eubank-Mitchell

Cassandra Lynn Eubank and William L. Mitchell II are engaged and plan to be married on October 19, 1996, in Moneta, Va. She is a daughter of Danny Eubank and Bernadine Roades of Moneta. She is a graduate of Staunton River High School and Blue Ridge Community College and is employed with Revco in Vinton as a pharmacy technician. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William L. Mitchell of Bedford. He is a graduate of Staunton River High School and James Madison University, and is currently a third-year law student at the University of Baltimore School of Law. He is employed by the law firm of Smith, Somerville & Case in Baltimore, Md

Feazell anniversary

Harvey & Dot Feazell celebrated their 50th anniversary on January 14, 1996. The celebration was held at the Holiday Inn Airport and was hosted by the children and grandchildren. The couple was married Jan. 15, 1946 in Bristol, Tennessee. They are long time residents of Salem. Mrs. Feazell is the former Dorothy D. Martin of Salem. Their children are Norma F. Arthur and Richard A. Feazell of Roanoke, Harvey Feazell Jr. of Clifto n Forge and Barry Lynn Feazell & J. Randall Feazell of Salem. They have eight grandchildren. Among the many special guests in attendance were Mr. & Mrs. John Herman Richburg of Columbia, S.C. who were also celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Hubert-LaChance

Rebecca Lynn LaChance, daughter of Gary and Gilda LaChance of Lincoln, Maine, became the bride of Douglas Ryan Hubert, Son of Ryan and Whitney Hubert of Salem. Rev. Mike Deflinger performed the candlelight service at Locust Grove United Methodist Church, October 21, 1995.

After a wedding trip to Mt. Lake, the couple have made their home in Woodbridge, Va.

Both Douglas and Rebecca are presently Petty Officers serving in the U.S. Navy on the Presidential Ceremonial Honor Guard, Washington, D.C

Hurt anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. J. Odell Hurt celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 6, 1996 with a reception given by their children and attended by family and friends at the Chamblissburg Baptist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Hurt were married on January 19, 1946 by the Rev. D. W. Persinger. Mrs. Hurt is the former Melva Irene Robertson of Franklin C ounty.|

The Hurts have lived in Bedford County for the past 45 years. Their children are Garrett and Donna Hurt and Donna and Donald Updike, all of Bedford. They have three grandchildren, Scott and Dana Hurt, and April Updike.

Lindsay-Reedy

Christine Rene Reedy and John Gregory Lindsay were married December 30, 1995, at The Wedding Chapel in the Valley in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The honor attendant was Sandra Porterfield, friend of the bride. The groom's father, William Lindsay, served as the best man. Magan Rene Reedy, niece of the bride, was the flower girl.

The bride is the daughter of Carol and Robert Beishir of Roanoke. She is a graduate of Lake Howell High School in Winter Park, Florida, and is employed by Berglund Chevrolet.

The groom is the son of Ann and William Lindsay of Dublin, Virginia, and is employed at Lowe's Home Center of Dublin. Mr. Lindsay is a graduate of Pulaski County High School.

After their honeymoon in Gatlinburg, the couple will reside in Roanoke.

A reception to honor the newlyweds will be held at the home of the bride's parents at a future date

McCarty-Lawhorn

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth McCarty of Hardy, Va., are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Ann, to James Edward Lawhorn, Jr., of Fredericksburg, Va. Jennifer is a graduate of Staunton River High School and is currently a senior at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va. James is a graduate of Culpeper County High School, is employed by Buhl Electric, and is currently studying for his Master's Electrician License at Spotsylvania Vocational School. An April 1997 wedding is planned

McDaniel birth

Carl and Michelle McDaniel proudly announce the birth of their son, Chase Bishop McDaniel. Chase was born Christmas night, December 25, 1995 at 10:15 p.m. at Community Hospital, weighing 6 lbs. 43/4 ozs. and was 20 inches long. He has a sister, Haley Nicole, 31/2 years old. Maternal grandparents are Mike and Joyce Bishop. Paternal grandparents are Carl and Ola McDaniel. A special thank you to Dr. Barbara Moore and the Nurses at Community.

Musselman anniversary

Curtis and Brenda Musselman celebrated their 25th anniversary on November 25, 1995. The celebration was held in Junction City Oregon. The couple have two children, Brian and Stephanie. Curtis is retired from the U.S. Air Force after 26 years service.

Ouellette-Rigatti

Miss Barbara Jane Ouellette and Mr. Robert Ryan Rigatti are engaged and planning to be married in Roanoke on September 28, 1996. She is the daughter of Mrs. Anne Ouellette of Ithaca, N.Y. Miss Ouellette was a Marketing major at Virginia Tech and is currently employed by AT&T. Mr. Rigatti is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Rigatti of Roanoke. He studied Engineering at Virginia Tech and is currently employed as a building inspector for Rockbridge County.

Ratcliffe-Leonard

David E. Leonard Jr. and Debra L. Ratcliffe would like to announce their wedding on February 10, 1996. The ceremony will take place at Grassland United Methodist Church in Catlettsburg, Kentucky at 4:30 pm.|

The bride, Debra Ratcliffe, formerly of Huntington, is a graduate of Marshall University. She is currently the owner/operator of an electronic billing center in Roanoke, Va. She was previously employed at St. Mary's Hospital in the laboratory.

The groom, David E. Leonard of Roanoke, Va., is a graduate of NC State and is employed as regional supervisor for the Mortgage Division of Jim Walter Homes.

The couple have four sons, David and Blake Leonard and Charlie and Keary Ratcliffe.

Sebastian-Wood birth

Curtis Wood and Diane Sebastian Wood are proud to announce the arrival of their daughter, Savannah Marie. She was born December 19, 1995 weighing in at eight pounds, eleven ounces, and measuring 211/2 inches long.

Grandparents are Betty and Benton Wood of Stuart, Virginia, and Jean Gross and Robert Sebastian of Pittsburg, Pa.

Special thanks to Drs. Jennings, Winn, and Forth, for their support and expertise. Also thanks to the Labor and Delivery Staff at Lewis-Gale Hospital for their fine care.

Lastly, thanks and praise to God for the safe delivery of our little girl.

Shotts-Zweifel

Heather Christine Shotts and Frederick Feza Zweifel, both of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, are happy to announce their engagement.|

Miss Shotts, daughter of Capt. and Mrs. William Shotts of Newport, Rhode Island, is a graduate of Lake Braddock Secondary School (Burke, Va.) and the Cleveland Institute of Music. Mr. Zweifel is a graduate of Blacksburg High School and the Curtis Institute of Music. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sweifel of Blacksburg and Ms. Constance Zweifel of Glens Falls, NY.|

A June 8 wedding in Newport is planned.|

Slade birth

Robert James Slade was born December 21, 1995, at 12:35 p.m. at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley. He weighed 6 lbs. 73/4 oz. and was 191/2 inches long. His parents are Michael and Susan Slade. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Slade of Bluefield; Mrs. Vicki Slaughter of Draper; Mr. and Mrs. James Baker of Princeton, W. Va. Attending physician was Dr. Lee McLennan.

Sloan anniversary

1946-1996

The Rev. and Mrs. Irvin W. Sloan will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on January 24, 1996. They were married in Roanoke City by the Rev. Amos at his residence after Rev. Sloan returned from World War II having served with the Army Air Corps in the European Theatre.

Rev. Sloan had worked at Clover Creamery and Sunshine Laundry before being called into the ministry. He attended Shenandoah Bible College and organized the Good News Baptist Church in 1962, which he actively pastors. Mrs. Sloan is the former Edna Lee Logan of Roanoke County. She has been an ardent housewife and has worked at Roanoke Mills and Diamond Plastics.

Their children and spouses include Joyce Lee and Michael Wingfield of Jonesborough, Tenn., and Irvin Ray and Bobbi Sloan of Buchanan. Grandchildren are Michele Wingfield, Joshua Wingfield and Chris Sloan.

Along with the members of the church, the children will honor them with a reception at the Good News Baptist Church, 309 Atherly Street, Roanoke, Va., on Saturday, January 27, 1996, from 2 to 4 p.m. All are invited to attend and celebrate with them.

Spiro-McClellan

Mr. and Mrs. Michael Spiro of Pittsburgh, Penn., announce the engagement of their daughter Juliet Claire, to Marc Gregory McClellan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wendell McClellan of Marion.

The bride-elect graduated from Miami University of Ohio and earned a master's degree in business administration from Virginia Tech. She is a human resources manager at the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine.

The prospective groom, a 1984 Marion Senior High School graduate, graduated from the United States Military Academy and earned a master's degree in business administration from Virginia Tech. He is a consultant for Booz, Allen & Hamilton.

Tuttle-Schulwolf

Mr. and Mrs. John W. Tuttle of Blacksburg, Virginia, announce the engagement of their daughter, Amy Terisa, to Marc Lynn Schulwolf, son of Mrs. Benjamin Schulwolf of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and the late Mr. Schulwolf. Amy graduated from Blacksburg High School and Virginia Tech. She is employed by Starbuck's Coffee in northern Virginia. Marc graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk, Virginia, and Virginia Tech. He is employed by the Austin Grill in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. The wedding is planned for May 1996.

White birth

Taylor Erin White was born January 11, 1996 at 12:36 p.m. at Community Hospital of The Roanoke Valley. Taylor weighed 7 lbs. 14 ozs., and was 201/4 inches long. Her proud parents are Mark and Tammy White of Roanoke. She has a brother, Joshua, and a sister, Krysten. Her grandparents are Ira and Anna White of Vinton; and Homer and Gladys Sanderson of Peterstown, W.Va.

We would like to thank Dr. Jorge Garcia and the staff at Community Hospital for the excellent care they provided. A very special thanks to God for blessing us with a healthy baby girl!
