ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

Two large projects in Salem helped push the value of Roanoke Valley building permits higher in December.

The value of building permits last month reached $10.7 million compared with $7.4 million in November and $5.3 million in December a year ago.

Of last month's total, $3.8 million was recorded in Roanoke County, $1.5 million in Roanoke and $5.3 million in Salem. The Salem total included a permit for a $4.8 million expansion to the Wal-Mart store there and $125,000 for interior renovations at Lewis-Gale Clinic.
