A pilot's union ended a work slowdown at Federal Express on Tuesday without attaining a new contract.
The Air Line Pilots Association began the slowdown Nov. 25. The union wants a 17 percent salary increase over three years as well as improvements in job security, retirement pay and other benefits.
On average, FedEx pilots make $128,000 a year.
FedEx wants work rule changes it says will make pilots more productive, as well as more freedom in leasing non-company planes and flight crews during peak shipping periods.
``The FedEx [Master Executive Council] decided today that the time is right to suspend our self-help activities and demonstrate that our focus is on concluding negotiations for a mutually beneficial contract,'' said Captain Al Samford of the union's Master Executive Council.
``All pilots will immediately be encouraged to once again begin accepting overtime and draft flying in addition to their regular schedules.''
Contract talks in Washington, overseen by the National Mediation Board, continue.
