in June 1943, returned Wednesday. Owned now by Norfolk Southern, the
1218 was used in its steam excursions before the program was
discontinued in late 1994. It is being stored in the East End Shops,
awaiting a decision by the company on its permanent home. Says J.A.
Tampasis, a carman welder at the shops: "It's a work of art." Story
