The Bedford County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to select a developer and restaurant owner to fill the seat in the county's Forest District left vacant by the resignation of Henry Creasy.
Wayne Newcomb, developer of the Forest Lakes subdivision and owner of the Texas Steak House restaurant chain, was out of the country and couldn't be reached for comment.
Creasy, also a Forest-area developer, resigned last month, citing the need to spend more time with his new wife.
The board interviewed eight applicants Tuesday night. Newcomb was interviewed last week.
"I think we had a good selection of candidates ... and we were impressed by several of them, but when it came down to it, Newcomb was the best qualified," Supervisor Lucille Boggess said.
Newcomb is expected to be sworn in before the next board meeting Feb. 12.
